Taking Alchool in Carry on

UGH!!! My mother has a big habit of filling up water bottles with vodka, to take out to the beach... or on the ship to take up on deck, or to a hotel, etc... she just hates packing glass, I don't know.. she's weird :p LOL! But my dad was saying once that he has probably been burned over 50 times with her "bottles" and still hasn't learned!!! LOL! She did finally start removing the label, so anytime we see a bottle missing the label, we never chug it :p

She souldn't be allowed on board with her banned alcohol just like you don't want me in the dining room in my shorts. Of course, they are designer shorts

Alcohol smuggling is a popular discussion topic here. Some people here will scold you for doing it, but the consensus seems to be "Pack it with towels and/or bubble wrap and put it in your locked & checked luggage". Carnival seems to take a "Dont ask-Dont tell" attitude. Just don't rub it in the cruise lines face.

If it's in your carry on, (other than a bottle or two of wine) you'll likely lose it.

There are always exceptions, but IIRC, Carnival's rules are pretty clear, "No outside alcohol brought on board, except for limited amounts of wine".

Why do most CCers say it's ok to smuggle booze and they want to tar and feather you for wearing jeans/shorts to dining room.

Why do some people take things so personal:confused: Who cares how others feel. Just focus on the reality. It works for me:)

I've never been one to take a strong position for or against strict dress code adherence. However, I think it has to do with what you do in private (ie Bailys in my coffee in the morning in my room) versus the public spaces on the boat.

Would you agree that there is a difference?

a few yrs ago at san juan waiting to sail, i went to the store by the ship, purchased a few 1/2 pints of booze and put them in my 2 front pockets, had on a flowered big shirt that hung over the shorts, walked right on. usually i take it in my cosmetics bag, wrap it and put it in a baggie the cosmetic case goes right in the luggage between some t-shirts rolled up..oh for those interested. yes, we do buy drinks on board as well..its fun to sneak it on and at $5 for a rum/coke or bloody mary with no booze in it..no thanks. espically when ya have to pay $15 for a photo. they get their cash believe me.

Not sure why you thought it was "banned alcohol", it was alcohol she ordered from Carnival... perfectly legal, and she paid a pretty price for it  Funny how you would ASSume it was "illegal" alcohol... yet it wasn't... she just didn't want to take the GLASS it was delivered in, up on deck...

Even designer shorts, aren't allowed :p

Last week, when I was in line waiting to give a Carnival employee my paperwork with my reservation, in Miami, my niece and I saw a woman get busted for having a big ole bottle of Vodka that was in her carry-on. That was a big oops! It was right where you go thru security with you & your carry-on items.

Since you were in San Juan, you could have just put it in your carry on. Usually the staff in the duty free store will help you pack it.:D Its pretty well known that many are bringing on liquor from the store, but the security doesnt seem to care one bit.

we were already checked in and boarded for our cruise, i had no carry on. the destiny cruises at 10pm...we were just out walking around passing time, there is a small shop on the same side as the ships, a small quick shop. went in there last time too..i had a back pack..the beer fit fine, even stopped at the sheraton to gamble awhile. this was a port stop, so we just walked on like any other port. i have never checked my purchases, just put them in my backpack and take them to the cabin. we really dont drink much! haha sounds like it, in fact we very seldom drink in less we go to a casino or on vacation! did enough of that we were young! cant handle it now. teehee..but i always buy it, most of the time i bring it back home full..i always buy rum right b4 we get onboard. some folks take a blender. not that into it..hahacindy

Yes. I do carry it in my pockets. Don't worry, rum won't bite.:)

As I said, many people say that they have no problem putting it in checked bags. I have however read some who say that they've been busted. Seems like russian roulet with cruise port security. You can also try clear liquors in water bottles in carry-ons. That has worked for me in the past.

Either way, good luck.

You're not supposed to bring water bottles with the seal broken - I don't know how far they go to check. I did have a nasty inspector last year that tore my luggage apart to find the wine botle & small Listerine bottle that she had seen on the x-ray.

Well what if they do catch someone trying to bring on alcohol?? Do they confiscate it or do you just not get to board?? I want to know what happens.

The confiscate it without compensation. Then have a big party after the ship leaves.

Don't pack more then your tolerance to lose.

Here's some tips. Carry them in your pockets. Do not put them in any bag that will be X-rayed. Some have said that they have been successful carying them in checked bags, but I'm not comfortable enough with that. Be sure that you take all metal objects out of your pockets so as not to trip the alarms and cause yourself to be searched.

Good luck and have a great trip.;)

We are going to take some alcohol with us, first time....:o Once you get it to your cabin, do you keep it out on the counter for the steward to see? Do the stewards care? Do you keep it in your luggage?????
