sfjldj Posted May 13, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Need some help: Some in our group (we wont name names) wont set foot in a helicopter but would nonetheless love to do some dog sledding. Is there any way to do so? thanks.
mstewart Posted May 13, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2004 We are going on a wheeled dog sled/visit to the musher's camp excursion next month. Booked through the cruise line. First cruise on Serenade of the Seas, 5/30/04! Budget Queen Posted May 14, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2004 I would split up the group and those who wish to - go. There is little comparism to glacier and cart dog sledding. The cart sledding is availble from Skagway, Seward - the top choice in my opinion and the cheapest deal around at the Wasilla Dog Sled headquarter's museum for $5. There are many more around Denali park and I highly recommend Northern Sky lodge between Denali Park and Fairbanks.
sfjldj Posted May 16, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted May 16, 2004 Thanks BQ. I assume you agree with others about the glacier sledding being a much cooler "Alaskan" experience than the wheeled version. Sounds from this board and it hink you that it gets cancelled with some regularity but it sounds like what most of us will want to do (including me!) Juneau right now looks like the heli dog sled and then right to captain larry. What are your thoughts on Skagway where the plan is railroad and then emerald lake by horse with i guess some doing the wheeled dog sled. Im tempted to do the slightseeing but emerald lake and horses sounds nice and something all 12 of us could do. ketchikian is looking like kayaks if it's not raining. sounds like the kids in my group, 8, 12 and 13 might like that lumberjack show that otherwise adults here say isnt anything special. those are the threee ports we hit on the hubard glacier renaissance of the seas cruise. Thanks!
quote:
Originally posted by Budget Queen: I would split up the group and those who wish to - go. Budget Queen Posted May 16, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2004 Yes the Juneau glaicer dog sledding tour is the most canceled of Alaska excursions. But plenty do run. The Lumberjack show would be a hit for the kids, the adults can shop or take a walk about town. Flintstone Posted May 16, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2004 sf....please have mercy on us "wussies" that can see no conceivable reason for leaving perfectly good solid ground and wooshing our large behinds thru the sky...tempting the carnivorous wildlife below with a massive lunch-buffet! I will probably send DH on his own and go shopping. It truly sounds like an awesome experience....but one I'd die just as happy not doing!!! 9/2000 Carnival Tropicale 12/2001 NCL Norway 9/2002 NCL Norway 10/2003 Disney Wonder 2005...Alaska
