39august Posted August 20, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2004 Is the closest airport to San Pedro LAX? Southwest flies into Ontario and Burbank as well as LAX and I have no clue where the pier is.
srphnx Posted August 20, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2004 Lax is the best of the three, Long beach would be better (less crowded) but isn't one of you listed options. Plan on a $40 cab or $25 shuttle.
ca2ga2000 Posted August 20, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2004 Yes, LAX or Long Beach are your two best options. Although the other two are "doable" if the rate is much cheaper. However, in my experience, you will get the best rate into LAX.
Ella2 Posted August 20, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2004 Another option is SNA (Orange County); it's a smaller airport than LAX and a little further away, but if you get a good price it might be worth the extra drive. Burbank and Ontario are both a HAUL from San Pedro.
cactusrose Posted August 20, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2004 I'm doing this in November and will be flying in to LAX on Southwest. This is really the best option for me. Long Beach is also a good option. You should be able to find flight for about the same price. Southwest goes to LAX and Jet Blue goes in to Long Beach. sammiedawg Posted August 21, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2004 Are there shuttles to the pier from SNA? Taxis? Any idea of the cost and availability? We're flying in / out on Saturday and hoping for less traffic. Thanks
Shipkicker Posted August 21, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2004 Yes, Jet Blue flies into Long Beach (LGB) as well as American Airlines, America West, Alaska Airlines and Horizon. I have heard folks say that if a fare is lower into LAX, the airlines will meet the fare into LGB.

The traffic is not necessarily better on Saturday, it may be! I try to never, ever drive the 405! There are other freeway options from LAX and with LGB, you can avoid freeways altogether! 1cruiselvr Posted August 21, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 21, 2004 SNA (Orange County Airport) is almost never cheaper in airfare than LAX or LB airport fares because they have very high airport taxes. Also, it's further away and exposes you to the potential of more freeway traffic which could delay your arrival to the port. Since I live in the suburbs of Los Angeles, I would definitely recommend that you choose LAX or LB, based upon the flight fares and timetables of the airlines that fly from your area. Happy Sailing!
