eh2zed Posted August 3, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2007 http://barbadosactivities.blogspot.com/2007/05/concorde-barbados-experience.html has info on touring the Concorde in Barbados Laughing Gull, thats interesting. When we get there next we will try to get outto the airport. We did a week in Barbados a number of years back and the Concorde was on the tarmac right besides ours. What a sight.:) :D :) :D
Pacific Sandy Posted August 4, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2007 I have flown on Concorde. What an experience it was. It is worth a visit to see the inside of this beautiful plane.
Laughing Gull Posted August 4, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted August 4, 2007 I'm glad this info is of interest. Hopefully my kids will get a kick out of seeing the Concorde. What a thrill to have actually flown in one! Lucky!
clerky96 Posted August 12, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 12, 2007 I notice the price of this is BD $35pp. What is that in US dollars? Thanks. Also, do you have to get a cab to the airport to do this tour, or are there tours that take you there?
cinnam0n Posted August 12, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 12, 2007 That is roughly $17.50 US -- Caribbean currency is roughly 2:1 compared to US dollars. I don't know first hand, but the article that was cited seems like it refers to the actual admission for the tour at the airport. You would probably have to get your own transportation there. clerky96 Posted September 25, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2007 Anyone know what it would cost to get from Bridgetown to the airport for this exhibit? BTW, I found a website that did say it is $17.50 US dollars for an adult.

Jesus! For that kinda money, jump on a bus and do it for 75 U.S.cents! __________________________________________
clerky96 Posted September 25, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 25, 2007 Sorry aplmac, I meant the fee for the Concorde exhibit is $17.50 US. I didn't make myself very clear, so I can see why you thought I meant the cab fare was that price. :o I have found a website that says the cab fare to/from the airport to Bridgetown is $13 each way. I don't know if I am brave enough to try the bus.

(I live here,on the island, and know a taxi rip-off when I see it.) By the way, I haven't done the Concorde exhibit, but I'm told it's very good and worth the money. _______________________________________________
clerky96 Posted September 26, 2007 #11 Share Posted September 26, 2007 Glad I set your mind at ease!:D Seems that taxi rip-offs are becoming the normal everywhere nowdays. I believe everyone has a right to make a living, but don't like it when they try to make their whole weeks wages off of me. My hubby, myself, and my sister are cruising to Barbados in Feb 2008. We are planning to take a taxi to the airport to see the Concorde, then take a tour. From the research that I have done, it doesn't seem any of the tour agencies include the Concorde in their tours. Guess we will have to make our own tour. Does $20 per hour for a taxi tour for the 3 of us sound reasonable, or will we have to pay more? In your opinion, what is absolutely a "must see" while on the island? We don't have a lot of time or money, so want to get the most out of our time there. Thanks for your help. clerky96 Posted September 26, 2007 #12 Share Posted September 26, 2007 aplmac, I was on a Barbados website and was told that the taxi fare to/from the airport would be more like $25 US per person ($75 for the 3 of us) EACH WAY. That would make the cost of going to the airport to see the Concorde on our own as high as going on the ships excursion. Now that is a ripoff! Is there any way you could get this information for me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Aplmac Posted September 26, 2007 #13 Share Posted September 26, 2007 aplmac, I was on a Barbados website and was told that the taxi fare to/from the airport would be more like $25 US per person ($75 for the 3 of us) EACH WAY. That would make the cost of going to the airport to see the Concorde on our own as high as going on the ships excursion. Now that is a ripoff! Geeez.. if I didn't have a lil dorky two-door car with an inefficient aircon unit I'd come get you myself, for half that! That sounds like a lotta money they're asking you. (my email is pcdoctor (at) caribsurf dot com ) stay in touch.. Since you're more than 3/4 of the way to The CRANE (10 mins from the airport) if you do the Concorde, then you have to do The Crane as well! After the Crane, it's anyone's guess but keep formulating your plan. Maybe Martin's Bay(off the beaten track, but very ordinary Bajan scenery) then St.John's Church (for pictures of the view!) then ATLANTIS for Lunch, since we'd be nearly-there already(that's a definite) - after that the "Ethnic Fatigue" sets in bigtime so we'd need to nap somewhere for an hour or two while you fret about getting back on board in time... that's okay, I've got room at my house. . . . . . . . . Okay we were going nicely up to "Lunch @ Atlantis..." then a drive up the East Coast Road, and then turn inland, unless you want to go up to the Farley Hill lookout at about 800ft. height to chill for awhile in the cooler breezes up there, coz by 2 o' clock the heat's starting to build a bit.. And then complete the circle back down to the Harbour for whatever time your ship leaves, and I'm left crying on the dock coz I'm not going with ya! ____________________________ OUTside the Harbour gates are a bunch of taxi drivers(too many of them) all very anxious for your business I'm sure you can get a guy to take you three to the Airport/Crane for maybe $40 (U.S. money), but one never knows. Cost of living on the island doesn't get any better in these days on Monopoly Money, and everyone here thinks he's gonna get rich and solve his financial problems via YOU.. so you gotta know how to bid these guys down, coz there's dozens more behind this guy, who will undercut him, to get the job. Haggle! that's my advice.
clerky96 Posted September 26, 2007 #14 Share Posted September 26, 2007 Thank you so much aplmac. I knew that you'd come through with some information. I guess I had better start practicing my "haggling". Just think, if you'd get a bigger car you could make all kinds of money from us "cruise critic" folks. :D BTW, although you have not been there, do you have any idea how long it takes to go through the Concorde exhibit? If not, that's okay. Thanks again for your info.
