Mailibu Beach

Brighton Beach wouldn't be my first choice of a beach for the day I'm ashore

but the plus is that you're almost within shouting distance of your ship in the harbour 1 mile away, if that!

what would be your choice and why?

Is there a bar there?Snackstand?

Yes, there's a beachside bar/restaurant there,

under the Mahogany trees.

Don't get me wrong.. Malibu/BRIGHTON Beach is okay

but in the other direction, on the other side of the Harbour as it were

is Carlisle Bay (and Boatyard, which cruisers are familiar with)

which is breezier and nicer generally.

Sorry to keep plugging Boatyard (no, I don't have shares in the place)

but it has amenities better geared to day trippers

It has showers, bar, restaurant, scuba shop, etc.

and from there you can walk under The Arch and across the bridge

into the shopping center of Bridgetown,

if you care to do that, either coming or going.

You'd probably have a great day at either location,

but I think Carlisle Bay is a bit nicer

How much would a taxi be to Carlisle Bay? DH/I will be stopping there in December. We would like to walk around for a while and then take a taxi to either Malibu Beach or Carlisle Bay. Is the water at both beaches calm? We might be traveling with a baby (trying to adopt) and if we decide to spend a little time at the beach I would like to make sure it's baby friendly (showers, bathroom, shade, etc.). Does both beaches have some kind of a snack bar?

Since this is our first visit to Barbados, what would you recommend to see in town?

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sea ya!

Some people walk it from B'town Port into the Bridgetown shopping area.

It'll be a mile by the time you walk from your ship,

along the dock and into Town.

If you don't want to walk it,

taxi drivers waiting right outside the gates will take you into Town

for $5 or less(each?)

Suggest you do some shopping and looking around

while walking your way towards the other end of Town

where you'll come to the Bridge with the ARCH at one end.

Cross the Bridge, go under the Arch,

and Boatyard (- on Carlisle Bay!) is about 200 yds. further on

in that same direction, on your right!

When you get to the Arch,

ask the Rasta guy on the left, there who carves Calabash...

ask him to point out Boatyard's colorful front wall.

The Barbados Museum is not far away if you're historically inclined or want something quiet to do - that's just inland a bit from Carlisle Bay, but you'd probably want to catch a cab at the Port

and pay him the $10-12 or so, to drop you there.

I picked this web site up from another poster ... maybe it will be helpful here as well...

Everything you need to know about the Boatyard is on their web site:

http://www.theboatyard.com/

I am also trying to decide which beach to spead the day. My DH wants most ports to be a "beach day" it needs to have a resturant/bar and a place to sit and have someone bring him beers. that is his only requests
