WorldCruise2005 Posted August 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2004 Am planning to travel solo on the Voyager World Cruise 2005. Will I find enough interaction on board to keep from crazy on the sea days? 124 days is a long time. Also, does open seating mean I'll be eating alone? dougburns Posted August 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2004 Have no fear; there's plenty to do. RSSC goes out of it's way to accommodate singles. There are all kinds of get-togethers. You'll have company for dinner any time you want. The singles really meet and get together rapidly on RSSC. If you like to dance and are female, the dance hosts are usually excellent and very professional. You're going to have a fantastic time!
WorldCruise2005 Posted August 23, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Thanks for the encouragement and info. I am bringing my laptop for photo processing and some writing. Does the voyager have good satelite internet access? Also thinking or renting a satelite telephone.
dougburns Posted August 23, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Are you doing the entire cruise? Internet aboard Voyager is excellent. There are very few times when you're not in a reception area. We had a day or two on the Transatlantic and a day or two around the equator in the Pacific. I wouldn't bother with a sat phone unless you really need to keep in touch with some one. Even a sat phone won't work in French Polynesia.
amos0410 Posted August 24, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 24, 2004 Hi. Did you cehck to see if there is any space available. English Voyager Posted August 24, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 24, 2004 I have been advised by a TA that the cruise is 80% booked, and with Radisson's stipulation that new bookings must be for a minimum of 2 sectors, anyone hoping to book now will need to be extremely optimistic. I am glad we booked our single sector in May.
English Voyager Posted August 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Have spoken with the Sales Director of Radisson UK who advised that other than for the Rome-Ft.Lauderdale sector any new bookings would have to be for the whole world cruise. dougburns Posted August 26, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 26, 2004 Just got our stateroom assignment from Singapore-Rome; we're in 831. It's a really good stateroom and we feel fortunate to have it. We've been on a CAT F guarantee since April.
WorldCruise2005 Posted August 27, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted August 27, 2004 Good to hear that. I'll be living in 1033 for 4 months. I hope it's a good stateroom too,
dougburns Posted August 27, 2004 #10 Share Posted August 27, 2004 There are no bad staterooms on Voyager. If you like the sea 1033 should be a great stateroom. We were in 1007 for the Transatlantic this Spring and loved it.
WorldCruise2005 Posted August 27, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted August 27, 2004 Thanks. Is it far enough away from the infamous vibration? I'm put in a request for deck 9 more forward.
jhp Posted August 31, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 31, 2004 I am only on one leg of the world cruise #2 Aukland to Sydney, but have a couple of friends on the whole thing. Are you interested in meeting others who are on the whole cruise?
WorldCruise2005 Posted August 31, 2004 Author #13 Share Posted August 31, 2004 I would love to meet others doing the Ft Lauderdale to Ft Lauderdale full cruise. Also interested in meeting others just doing segments. As I am traveling alone, it would be fun to meet other cruise lovers. This will be my first time on Radisson but my will be my 55th cruise. dougburns Posted August 31, 2004 #14 Share Posted August 31, 2004 I would stick with 1033 if I were you. There will be no vibration there. Since you are an experienced cruiser, I think you will find that the "vibration" issue is a non-issue. You are really going to like the Voyager! petlover Posted September 2, 2004 #15 Share Posted September 2, 2004 We're on the entire cruise (boarding in Los Angeles) and I'd love to meet you for dinner! We're in Cabin 733. As excited as I am, I'm also nervous about being away from home and my pets for so long. Our daughter will be staying here taking care of everything but it still makes me anxious being away so long. The longest cruise we've yet to be on was 11 nights so this is quite an experience for us. There are some GREAT people on various segments along the way! :) Please feel free to email me: marciematassa@adelphia.net
WorldCruise2005 Posted September 3, 2004 Author #16 Share Posted September 3, 2004 Will look forward to meeting you in Los Angeles. It is ashame that pets still can't go cruising. Maybe someday. I wonder if the Voyager has video internet capabilities. That way you could at least see them. Also, maybe you could bring lots of pictures and videos of Marcie and/or your pets to view and share. I spent 30 days on the Rotterdam World cruise in 2001. There was only one time, during a 6 day stent at sea did I get a little antsy. 105 days may be a challenge for us all. More later! colleenmf Posted September 5, 2004 #17 Share Posted September 5, 2004 hello, Worldcruise2005. My DH and I will be on the precruise cruise (what??) from Ft. Lauderdale to LA. No cabin assignment yet but I jokingly keep telling him that we are in steerage because we have an H gaurantee. Email if you want to chat before hand. I've found a family of 5 going on the precruise, too. Dh and I will be happy to meet, talk, sit, and eat with you anytime but I have a hunch you will be busy meeting lots of other people, too. When you go to dinner just tell them you want to sit with others and they will put you at table with several other people.
