1st time cruiser on Sensation

My 2 sisters in law and I are sailing on Sensation 2/24/08. It will be the first cruise for all 3 of us and we have soo many questions. I hope you all can help us, as we badly need help, lol.

The first question is motion sickness, one of us has it bad. What is the best prevention/cure for it? We have heard about the wrist bands, and of course you can always medicate. Do you feel the motion of the ship that much? Do the wrist bands actually work? We don't want her drowsy from the meds. So please give me some suggestions.

We were wondering about shore excursions. We have been looking at them and we want to do the jeep excursion in Freeport. Has anyone taken this one? Is it as fun as it sounds? Also, is it safe and reliable to book them directly or better to go through the cruise ship? We were looking at the yellow party boat for Nassau, because it looks like a good time as well. Does anyone know anything about this excursion.

I have been reading alot of the posts and reviews on sensation and it seems that they are all good or all bad. Very few that are mixed. Any information that ya'll can give give us would be greatly appreciated. We are all looking forward to this trip, no husbands, no kids and no work, no house chores. Even if the cruise is as bad as the bad reviews suggest it will still be heaven!!

Thank you!!

Can't tell you about meds or those excursions, but I can tell you not to worry about the ship. We sailed it last year, and are going again in 17 days. If you go to the ports of call boards you will have better luck finding out about those excursions. Oh yeah, welcome to cruise critic!!:D

Welcome to CC! This is a great board! I'll be on the Sensation in 2 weeks, so I can't tell you much about the ship, however we'll sailled several times in February and while it's usually calm, you never know when you may have a rough day or so.

DH and I take the Ginger Root tablets that you can buy at any pharmacy or Walmart type store. Some folks start taking them the day before as preventatives. DH's biggest regret is that we'd cruised 6 times before we discovered this method to combact seasickness! Take one in the morning and, if you feel you need it, one before dinner.

Best of luck! I am sure you will enjoy your first cruise and become addicted like the rest of us!

First - motion sickness. I have the worst motion sickness of anyone in my family; I get sick in the car if I'm in the passenger seat for more than 20 minutes sometimes, it's awful. However, only once did I feel at all affected by the motion of the ship, and that was one night when it was storming heavily and the ship was rolling pretty good. Under normal weather conditions, I had no sickness whatsoever. You may want to bring the bands just in case, but I've never used them, so don't know how reliable they are.

Shore excursions - check out the Bahamas board under Ports of Call, there is a lot of info about Nassau and Freeport excursions there. I've read good things about the yellowbird, so you would probably enjoy that. I think I read that the jeep excursion on Freeport was not very exciting, but that was just one opinion. There are many who do not care for Freeport, but I found it very enjoyable and relaxing. My family shared a taxi van with others ($5.00 pp each way) to Our Lucaya - it has a marina with many shops, restaurants, and a straw market to browse. Across the street is a casino, more stores, and a beautiful public beach.

The Sensation - I have been on the Fantasy and the Sensation, and the Sensation is my most favorite. There is a lot of neon green and purple, but since those are my favorite colors, I loved it! :D The service and food were top-notch, and be sure to watch the 80's show, Far From Over. It is fantastic.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.
