meisha Posted August 23, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Why is a cruise to the eastern caribbean a little more expensive than western caribbean?
Deb C. Posted August 23, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2004 I have always assumed it was the port charges.
Sky Sweet Posted August 23, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Why is a cruise to the eastern caribbean a little more expensive than western caribbean? I didn't realize it was and I have done both. Are you referring to a situation with identical dates, identical categories, same number of ports, etc?
ecowen Posted August 23, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2004 I'm not sure, but I'd blame it on the Bad Witch of the East.:D Seriously, prices of cruises and itineraries change daily, if not hourly. The only prices that are fixed are port fees, which might explain some of the differences you see. More likely, though, it's just that the Eastern cruises you are looking at just happen to be filling up more quickly than the Western.
toni1266 Posted August 23, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Hi, this is just an opinion but the eastern route is more sailing time which in turn means more fuel. That could be the reason... Or Not!!
CaribbeanBound Posted August 23, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Port Fees likely #1 reason, assuming total number of days and number of ports are the same. I'm guessing it's pretty cheap to port in Nassau. Why else would ships stop here. It's not a very popular port.
meisha Posted August 23, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted August 23, 2004 I never even thought of the port charges. I was just noticing that "lowest category prices" of eastern seem to be more. We have sailed both but different cruise lines.
ocngypz Posted August 23, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 23, 2004 Operating costs are a little higher on the eastern. These operating costs are not calculated into the non-commissionable fares (port charges).
