discjoker Posted August 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2007 Absolutely you can bring back alcohol from Cozumel. A certain amount can be brought back duty free...after your duty free allowance you will have to pay duty on the excess.

debnpaul Posted August 18, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2007 We brought back 2 bottles of Tequila from Cozumel. Security on the ship, however, did not allow us to bring it back to our room for immediate consumption. But, we turned it in, got our receipt from them, and the tequila was returned to us on the evening of the last day, no problems.
T0AST Posted August 18, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2007 anyone have any idea how much "duty" is to be paid on a bottle of liquor, if you go over your "1 duty free" limit??
paul929207 Posted August 19, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2007 If you are flying home, you will have to put it in your checked luggage.

coach32 Posted August 23, 2007 #8 Share Posted August 23, 2007 I was told it would cost about a dollar a bottle still a good deal. If you cruise out of Boston you can bring cases back and the only charge seems to be tipping the porter that helps you carry it.
Bonnie J. Posted August 23, 2007 #9 Share Posted August 23, 2007 When we had been to St. Thomas (5 bottles each allowed) we had 12 bottles- two boxes of 6 @. Customs called us over, opened the two boxes of 6 bottles each so they could see them. Then they said we could go with the 12 bottles and not pay duty. Think they said something like duty was less than $10 so they don't bother to collect it! But, if you put it in your carry off, they don't even know you have it. St.Thomas is a special case for Americans returning home. I think Americans can bring home something like 4 or 5x the amount of alcohol allowed, duty and tax free, as long as it's purchased in St. Thomas. Just another reason why Eastern/Southern itineraries are so popular. :D
newmexicoNita Posted August 23, 2007 #11 Share Posted August 23, 2007 Normally they do not bother with charging the duty, in fact when you fill out the forms there is no place to even list liquor. You can just put miscellaneous. (spelling) One time they did charge my daughter duty coming off a Carnival ship in Miami and one time I had to pay in Miami. The big problem is figuring how you will get the booze on the plane if you are flying. Nita
