Snorkling Mexican Riviera

Where would be recommended from the normal cruise ship stops (LA - Acapulco) for snorkling. We have never been there and my expectation is that it will be less than some other areas we have been in the Caribbean and further afield.

As there will be five of us recommendations for independent trips would also be appreciated, rather than the cruise ship tours.

You can snorkel in Cabo San Lucas and Puerta Vallarta. Both aren't much, so don't get your hopes up. Water tends to be murky, but I've had some clear days in Cabo. The trip to the marine park in PV is nice, not for the snorkeling, but for bird life and the scenery. Water tends to be cool and choppy. If you have wetsuit you'd appreciate having it. In Cabo if you go ways into the Sea of Cortez, snorkeling might be better, but I haven't tried it myself.

There aren't too many snorkel sites to go to, so I'd stick to the ship's excursions. You pay more, but if the snorkel boat have problems which it could, I know the ship will wait for me.
