98Charlie Posted August 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2004 DW & I are looking at a transatlantic crossing in the future. Going from FLL to Portugal in April. What kind of temperatures can we expect?
luv2cruise450 Posted August 26, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2004 On our Noordam transatlantic (April)...we embarked in Tampa and it got cooler as we headed eastbound across...seas pretty calm for several days...then we hit a storm...waters became rougher and temps were pretty cool with some winds if you were out on the open decks...but that was only for about 2 days then it calmed down again. Bring clothes to layer...some of the older pax were wearing coats but for the most part...I was OK with long slacks and wearing a sweater that had a hood. Really loved all the sea days! Happy sailing!
98Charlie Posted August 26, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted August 26, 2004 luv2cruise450 Thanks for the info. What was the final destination of your transatlantic? I was really hoping for weather warm enough for sunning in shorts
kitty9 Posted August 26, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2004 The farther you get from Florida, the cooler the weather will get. Have done crossings from Ft Lauderdale to London and Barcelona in April. Seas were OK, but a little rougher than in the Caribbean. It really got quite cool and windy the closer we got to Europe. luv2cruise450 Posted August 26, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2004 We disembarked in Lisbon and did a hotel post pkg thru HAL and thus spent another 2 1/2 days 'exploring' Lisbon and environs a bit before flying home, Enjoyed the time we had in Lisbon very much. All the ports were interesting. Nope...it got too cool for shorts and bathing suits a day or so after we left Key West. We loved the transatlantic sailing so much that when we came home...we spoke to our TA and ended up cancelling a 12 night Caribbean cruise that we had already booked for October and she found us another transatlantic cruise (Nov)sailing back to the US from Europe on the Millenium! But since it was a new booking with the same line (Celebrity) we weren't penalized for changing ships and itinerary! Anyway...enjoy!
