Staff changes on the reflagged Jade

Is anyone able to offer a good reason why the Poh is being renamed the Jade?

All the NCLA ships use "Pride of" in their names, reflecting that it is American flagged. All NCL ships use Norwegian in their names, reflecting that it not American flagged, most being flagged in the Bahamas. NCL Corp is pulling the Pride of Hawaii from NCLA's Hawaii fleet because fares are too low to maintain profits with the higher American crew labor costs, and moving it into NCL's international fleet.

Do you think Norwegian Hawaii sounds great? Since it's is a member of the Jewel class, Jade matches it's sister ships name themes better, after precious stones. Here will be the name of all four ships; Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Jade, Norwegian Pearl, and Norwegian Gem.

Which brings up the question, what will NCL use as a name theme for it's new build F3 class ships? Continue using precious stones, diamond and ruby haven't been used yet; change to precious metals like gold, silver, and platinium; or reuse previous discontinued names like Norwegian Sea, Norwegian Wind, Norwegian Crown? I bet NCL will do a study to find out what appeals to most consumers.

What do you think would be better?

Not sure of the question, but if it pertains to why the ship is moving, you just need to review all the negative reviews coming from the Hawaii market along with the press releases showing they are loosing money as well. They can make more money moving it to NCL fleet, and have happier customers. Win win for them.

Right, I understand now. They can't really have the Pride of Hawaii sailing round the Med.

As for new names, may I suggest that NCL holds a competition with the winner getting a free cruise on the inaugural?

Good idea.

Here is an advance excerpt of the rules NCL is planning to announce later.

A - The winner can not later change the room or sailing date, even if we come up with better rates and rooms. Those would be for new bookings only. You are already booked.

B - The winner shall not attempt to bring booze onboard in any form. Nor will the winner even ASK about it. Violation of this rule will cause immediate action up to and including walking the plank - if we can find it.

C - All winning tickets will be provided via email. You will not be eligible for paper tickets. If your ticket is stuck in your spam filter, tough luck.

D - The winner will furnish their own heavy duty packing tape for luggage tags.

E - Each winner will be required to book all tours through NCL. No fair booking them privately.

F - Winner can not make advance restaurant reservations.

G - Please do not ask us about what pier we will sail from. We will provide a very large ship with our name painted on the front in 20 foot high letters.

H - Yes, bring your passport, even the people dropping you off need to bring their passport. Better safe than sorry.

I - Leave your personal electronics at home. We have changed the power setup in the rooms. If you plug in your IPOD or camera or dvd player they will blow up within 10 seconds. We will disavoy any knowledge of your existence at that point.

J - The casino will glady accept your cash. Once you lose $2,000 we will offer two free drinks, but you must continue playing for two more hours at that point.

Okay - gotta go. By the way, before you slam me, we are going on our 4th NCL trip next month.

Hi,

I am book on the Jade 2/16, My husband co-worker was just on the Pride of HI, and said the staff and housekeeper was awful. I was concerned when I heard this. I contacted my NCL representative and she said the ship will be staff with a new international crew. Apparently the American crew is hard to staff and service is not as good.

Eileen, may I ask that you post a brief review of your cruise afterwards for the sake of the community here. What sort of stateroom will you be in?
