3 days in Seattle--Seeking Advice fromGardyloo and others

A friend of mine will be going to Seattle for a wedding in early August. She has never been to Seattle and will extend her trip to make a 4 day weekend. She is looking for Seattle touring ideas and also thinking about a trip to Victoria. Any suggestions?

We spent 4 days in Seattle before our cruise. We loved it. It is very much a walking town. We spent most of our time just walking and taking in the sights. Try to take the ferry somewhere. Doesn't matter where, it is just a very nice relaxing trip. Cost us $5.70 each for a 30 minute trip to Bellingham Island. We just stayed on the boat for the return trip. Be sure to visit Pike's market. We also enjoyed the 'Underground Tour' in Pioneer Square. Don't bother eating at Cutter's - high prices and BAD service. Have been told Ivar's has great seafood. The space needle has a terrific view of town if it is a clear day. We wanted to take the Seattle lake cruise but, time and weather did not co-operate. Be sure to take an umbrella and/or rain poncho.

Yeah, carrying an umbrella will help us identify you as a tourist! LOL! I never use an umbrella. :-)

We spent two nights in the Seattle area following our cruise earlier this month. I second the Underground Tour-lots of fun, if you don't mind cobwebs! The aquarium was interesting, if you enjoy things like that as I do. Pike Place Market is crowded, but a must-see tourist thing.

We also enjoyed touring the Boeing plant in Everett and the Museum of Flight south of town. Unlike the Concorde in NYC, you can go through the one they have out west.

Foodwise, we ate at Luigi's Grotto, which was appropriate following the Underground Tour, as that is where it is located-in the Underground, and only a couple of blocks from Pioneer Square.
Food was very good and the owner is quite a character.

Also don't forget about catching (no pun intended) a Mariner's game if they are in town when you are there!! Also great fun - we have tickets for the Mariners and Red Sox post-cruise and can't wait!!

Victoria can be done as a day or overnight trip, albeit a somewhat hectic one in mid-summer.

It all depends on individual likes and dislikes. There are national parks, city parks, museums, galleries, country drives, big-time shopping, ferry rides, harbor tours, the Boeing plant tour and/or the Museum of Flight, the Museum of Glass in Tacoma (see Chihuly's Bridge of Glass)... plenty. If one's in town over Labor Day weekend, the monster Bumbershoot arts festival (hundreds and hundreds of big name acts) takes place at Seattle Center. (Oh, you said early August. Sorry.)

We spent three nights in Seattle before our cruise last summer. We went to Tacoma the first afternoon to see the Museum of Glass. The second day, we went to Mount Ranier to hike an easy trail. The next day we went to Snowqualmie Falls for our Twin Peaks sightseeing.

A couple of summers before we spent time going to Victoria. I think it takes more than a day trip to see.

We are staying in Seattle the day we get off the cruise and we are going to the dinner train THE SPIRIT OF WASHINGTON we took it a few years ago it is a lot of fun
