cruisemama5 Posted September 7, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2007 We are driving to CA Saturday and staying near the port Sat and Sun night. We were wondering whether it would be better to do our own sightseeing around LA and Hollywood, or to take a tour. DH doesn't like CA freeways much and we don't know how crowded or difficult it will be to get around on a Sunday? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. THANKS!! FitzLA Posted September 7, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2007 If your DH doesn't like the freeways, take a tour. San Pedro is not close to any of the touristy areas of L.A. and the freeways are always busy. Will take you about an hour, give or take a few minutes, to get to any of the touristy area. About the only provider that I've heard of doing LA/Hollywood tours out of the harbor area is these guys (most of the major tour providers only pick up from hotels in the Hollywood or West Side areas)... http://www.sunseekertours.us/highlights.htm (Disclaimer: I've never used them personally, so I can't vouch for the tour) You might want to contact them to see if they'll do a pick-up at your hotel... cjankowski Posted September 7, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2007 We stayed in Long Beach and went to the Peir and the Acquirm(SP). It was very nice and we really enjoyed it. Was not to much money either.
cruisemama5 Posted September 10, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted September 10, 2007 Does anyone have suggestions for things to do near the port that day. We have looked into tours of LA and Hollywood and we would have to go up there to meet them. Just wondering what there might be closer to do? Thanks for your help. betcat Posted September 10, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2007 One thing that is close by is the Queen Mary ship. It is open on Sunday. You can also take the light rail up to L.A. so you wouldn't have to drive up there.

We rented a GPS system for the car while in the area. You can set it to NOT go on freeways, which we sometimes did, and it great! We love to tour in LA. Our last trip, we decided to go to a musical and saw "Wicked" which was at the Pantages Theatre near Hollywood Walk of Fame. We drove there from Long Beach area and didn't use the freeways... Sunday afternoon matinee... no traffic problems. The Arts area downtown is great also.... The Disney complex there is interesting (the Met). We even got tickets for another show... this time Jersey Boys. Great additions to our trip, and that GPS is what made it possible and enjoyable.
