azsunshine Posted September 11, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2007 OK, I know there is a mattress thread discussing the full Princess line and the topic is beaten to death, but have any of you sailed on the Emerald with the new mattresses? Did you still need to ask for an extra egg carton foam mattress cover? I was really hoping for a vast improvement in the bedding. Let me know if I need to fax the request now. Thanks!! gooch47 Posted September 11, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2007 Personal opinion only, of course, but I thought the mattresses on the Emerald were the most comfortable we've had. And I couldn't feel the divider between the two sides at all.
spate Posted September 11, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2007 I agree with Gooce. We sailed in May and the bedding was fantastic.
nomars_girl Posted September 11, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2007 I slept like a rock - but I was exhausted from the very port-intensive itinerary.

Hornet Posted September 11, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2007 So, are all cabins on the Emerald furnished with the upgraded beds and bedding? On the older ships it's just the mini and full suites, right?
nomars_girl Posted September 11, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 11, 2007 So, are all cabins on the Emerald furnished with the upgraded beds and bedding? On the older ships it's just the mini and full suites, right? We were in an obstructed oceanview - so one of the cheapest cabins. I don't know what the bedding is normally like since it was our first cruise. The bedding was the duvet type, which I think it the "upgraded". The mattress wasn't overly thick, but it was new, so it was comfortable.
Fisherbass Posted September 12, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 12, 2007 Just returned from 12 days on the Emerald and loved the bedding. Last summer we sailed on the Grand and the blanket seemed thread bare, it was awful. I hesitate going on an older ship because of this. It gave me the creeps. OK, I know there is a mattress thread discussing the full Princess line and the topic is beaten to death, but have any of you sailed on the Emerald with the new mattresses? Fuzzzy Posted September 12, 2007 #10 Share Posted September 12, 2007 I have not been on the Emerald Princess. I hope to be on her next Summer. Anyway, since the Emerald Princess is very new, I would think the mattresses would be great. Am I wrong?
azsunshine Posted September 12, 2007 Author #11 Share Posted September 12, 2007 Well, it sounds very promising! I will check it out in Nov. and let you know!
wtevrfltsurbt Posted September 12, 2007 #12 Share Posted September 12, 2007 Did the Emerald in June, bedding was lovely..........I am not a firm mattress kinda girl, and they are VERY firm! I asked for and got a topper, still woke up with a backache every morning, but as I said I prefer a soft mattress.
xtrmegee Posted November 27, 2007 #13 Share Posted November 27, 2007 We had a mini-suite. Upon arrival I did a quick 'lay down' test to see if I wanted an egg crate. The bed was a bit hard for me so I requested an egg crate because I know they run out quickly. After the Egg Crate, the bed was WONDERFUL! Couldn't feel the crack down the middle as we had our 2 beds pushed together. I am on the hunt to find out what type of pillow and duvet they use. I want to buy a set for my home! I think I will post a seperate thread to see if anybody knows.
space cowboy Posted November 27, 2007 #14 Share Posted November 27, 2007 My wife and I just returned from the Emerald Princess on the 16th of November, I found the mattresses comfortable, but that I could definitely feel the division between the two of them. AliceS Posted November 27, 2007 #15 Share Posted November 27, 2007 We just returned on the 16th, too. The beds are great. We like a more firm mattress.
MaryPoppinz Posted November 28, 2007 #16 Share Posted November 28, 2007 We have had the new stuff a few times now, including on Emerald. The bedding is great - Egyptian cotton duvet covers; the bed is very, very firm. Next time, I'll be asking for an extra duvet to put underneath me, to soften up that bed just a bit! tispwisp Posted November 28, 2007 #17 Share Posted November 28, 2007 We found the beds on the Emerald to be very firm. A bit too firm for us. I asked for an egg crate pad the 2nd day and they were all gone. We will definitely remember to ask for them ahead of time on our next cruise. However, the linens were wonderful!
