International Connecting Flight at LAX

How does LAX handle bags on connecting International arrival flights? We are coming into LAX from Tahiti (Air Tahiti Nui), then going out of LAX on US Airways. The question is what does LAX do (after customs clearing) with your bags. Please don't tell me we have to take them between buildings! Everyone from Princess and our TA tells us different stories, just wondered if anyone here has been though this lately.

If you ahve a through ticket, your bags will be sent through to your final distination. You need to claim your baggage, schlep the bags through customs, walk up a ramp and recheck them (just drop them off, no waiting in line for paperwork or anything), walk/ride to your departing terminal and with any luck at all, reclaim your baggage at your home airport.

If there is an inter-line baggage agreement between the two airlines, the above shoudl work even if you have a different ticket for each flight. If there is no inter-line agreement, you get to use your otherwise wasted layover to build a strong body.

You should arrive Bradley International Terminal. After you go through Customs, as ab0si posted, you will go to the transit desk to drop off your bags.

ATN and US Air are NOT partners in the strictest sense of the word. However, they most likely have an interline agreement. If you want to insure your luggage makes it home, then take it and check it in yourself. Otherwise, your luggage MAY make it a few days or hours after you arrive. You will have to clear security again for your continuing flight.

You will fly out of Terminal One on US Air. Unless it is a miserable day or you are not into walking, it really is easier to just walk from TBIT to Terminal One, than try to get on the shuttle bus. The bus stop is actually closer to terminal three than to TBIT. You will have to go almost all the way around the airport to get to Terminal 1 on the bus-stopping and starting at all the terminals.

When you leave Bradley-turn LEFT. Just keep walking. You can't miss terminal one.
