Rare Radio Posted September 17, 2007 Author #27 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Hello everyone ! Sorry I wasn’t able to post again last night. To make a long story short. . . . My connection was very weak. I started off using my wireless broadband connection (VZW), and the wi-fi connection was very weak. . . But I am posting today at a very fast speed in the library, through my wi-fi connection. We sailed yesterday at about 5:10pm. We navigated through the turning basin, and made it to the Key Bridge by 5:45. Mrs Radio and I went to dinner at the Great Gatsby Dining room. We have a very nice waiter (Leonardo), and the Bon Voyage Dinner was enjoyable. We were still at dinner when we went under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (715pm). . . The sunset was beautiful. We went to the Welcome Aboard show, but arrived a little late. The Palladium Theatre was very crowded. Simeon Baker was the Cruise director and is very funny, and very friendly. The Casino Royale is a favorite spot of mine on a Cruise Ship, and we were able to help out the Revenue department, with our offerings ! A quick stop at Ben and Jerry’s, and we were off to the cabin (10pm) I started writing this post at that time, but my connection was very very bad. . . I knew we would be near Norfolk at 130am, but was too tired to stay up. We turned our clocks one hour forward last night (Atlantic Time Zone). Today should be a day that is full of activities. Formal night is also tonight (sorry. . . no lobster, on a 5 night cruise), but the day should be a very relaxing day to get ready for a fun filled day in Bermuda tomorrow. We have plans to do many things tomorrow, and our plans may change based on the weather. The pics I will post today are from our sail away, and our cabin. I should be able to post many more later today. Thanks for tuning in ! Rare Radio Posted September 17, 2007 Author #32 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Hello everyone ! We are having a great time. I woke up early and used the Solarium Pool. We went to the Palladium to hear the Bermuda Shopping talk, and then to the Shops on Board (Mrs Radio’s favorite part of the ship !). The Casino Royale was much friendlier today. . . It worked out in my favor. . . We have been in rough seas much of the day; they have closed the pool and Solarium due to 55mph gales. They have placed the bags at all stairwells. There seems to be many first time cruisers on board, and I don’t think that they expected the seas to be this rough. It seems however, to bee rough seas on the way to Bermuda, and on the final seas day home. The Captain seems to think it will be much better later this evening. They have added a mid day Matinee today in the Palladium, due to the pool closures. They have also just announced that the production Show tonight (My Romance) will be cancelled due to the weather. They will be offering 2 comedians, in place of the show. For the Night Owls, there will be the 70’s Disco Inferno up in the Viking Crown Lounge. We are still 382nm from Bermuda, and we should be picking up the Pilot by 8:30AM tomorrow morning, and the Capt. Suggested that we should be tied up at Kings Wharf by 10AM Here are a few pics of today. I will try to post again tonight! Thanks for tuning in ! Carey and Kerry Posted September 17, 2007 #34 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Interesting about the lobster - we were on the 5 day on 8/19 to Bermuda and they served lobster, as a matter of fact, one of our tablemates got 2 helpings -

Rare TPKeller Posted September 17, 2007 #36 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Interesting about the lobster - we were on the 5 day on 8/19 to Bermuda and they served lobster, as a matter of fact, one of our tablemates got 2 helpings - That was what I remembered as well... but I think it was not on formal night, which may be the source of some confusion, since the 5 day cruises only have one formal night. In case you didn't notice, I've just published a photo album from that 8/19 cruise! Theron

MrPete Posted September 17, 2007 #41 Share Posted September 17, 2007 That was what I remembered as well... but I think it was not on formal night, which may be the source of some confusion, since the 5 day cruises only have one formal night. We were served "lobster tail" on a Wednesday, the day we left Bermuda. Formal night was Monday. It is not listed as "Lobster tail" on the menu. It's called fisherman plate or something like that. Regardless, when it comes, it looks more like MINI lobster, or a big crawfish.

Rare Radio Posted September 18, 2007 Author #45 Share Posted September 18, 2007 Hello everyone! We are currently sailing at 21knts, and are about 212nm, which means that we should arrive in Bermuda on time! The weather has cleared up tremendously. There are currently clear skies, and the ship is still rolling, but it is much more bearable than it had been earlier today. Hmmm, I guess the Captain was right. Maybe he has sailed to Bermuda a time or two before this trip. The formal dinner was very good. I had the Sea Bass which was wonderful. Mrs Radio had the pasta which was good also. My Mom and Dad each had the fillet, which they liked. I was told that we will be having Lobster for Thursday night (this is different than I was told by the attendant) Tomorrow, RCI will take the entertainment out to the Dockyard Destination (8-10PM), which is a stage (Right in the Dockyard), where RCI offers some of their entertainers, and the Dept of Tourism in Bermuda also have entertainment for the Cruise Ship Passengers. . . Or any Cruise Ship Passenger, or Bermuda Tourist. I went to the show in July, and it was very good. There are many vendors that, also participate, with music, and dancers. Tomorrow is also the Love and Marriage Game Show which is always very funny. The Grandeur will be having a Mardi Gras Pool Party late (11:15) with a poolside buffet, and music. The Wi fi Connection has been working very well, and I am happy with it’s performance. My new Garmin76CSx is working great. . . It can pick up a signal from inside my cabin ! I have been tracking the whole cruise to determine, speed, and distance from Bermuda. I will be posting pics tomorrow of our arrival. I am hoping for clear sunny skies, as we make our final approach. Thanks for tuning in. Radio We are almost there ! .
jennymcc Posted September 18, 2007 #46 Share Posted September 18, 2007 Thanks for your wonderful reports and pics Radio! This is so exciting, as we are sailing on the Grandeur to Bermuda in TWO WEEKS!! We are first time RCCL cruisers! We have previously sailed Princess (and love it) but have heard wonderful things about RCCL and live in Maryland! So this cruise was for us! QUESTION: Can you tell me if they have Texas Hold'em in the casino? I heard that they have a tournament on most ships and that some have a cash game limit table. Also, when do you sign up for the tournament? Is it a limited number of seats and first come first served... or do they just take all who want to play? Any info on poker on the Grandeur would be greatly appreciated! :) Thanks! Jenny Hope you have beautiful weather for the rest of the cruise! signman Posted September 18, 2007 #49 Share Posted September 18, 2007 Too bad about your weather today. It was a spectacularly beautiful day in Baltimore. FYI, The Champagne and Canapes were offered to all embarking Platinum and Diamond cruisers for the very first time yesterday. No dedicated lounge, but finally a lagniape. takeme2 Posted September 18, 2007 #50 Share Posted September 18, 2007 Thanks Radio, your input helps us all. Two questions that seem to be directly opposite. 1. Is there a free soft ice cream machine anywhere on GOS? 2. Can you smoke cigars anywhere? Thanks for your help, we will be on the 13 night repo in November. Have a great time on your cruise.
