What are the past passenger perks for sailing multiple times?

Fred,

Thanks for the quick reply. Do they ever offer early disembarkation for past guests? Waiting around forever to get off the ship is the main drawback I ever have to cruising. Any words of advice?

I see you've been on the Spirit a few times. That's the first cruise hubby and I ever went on. :D

The only early disembarkation is Self Assist, which means you have from 7am till 9am to get off the ship lugging your own luggage.

We love self assist. This week we were off the Fantasy by 7:30 and home by 8:00 - you can't beat that! We've never been able to disembark that early. Since it was earlier than most people expected, there was NO line when debarkation was announced. We threw our last few things into our suitcase and ran up the hallway to find NO ONE in the lobby. We walked right off the ship and there were only about 20 families waiting to go through customs. In the future we'll always be ready an hour BEFORE they say debarkation will begin, because that was a great experience!

My Mom and I did the self assist on the Grandeur last year and it was awesome. I don't remember Sensation offering it on our Christmas cruise last year. Maybe they did and I just wasn't paying attention. :o The more we cruise, the less stuff we pack, so the more benefit we'll get out of self assist! :D Guess I better get cruising some more so I can get to Platinum status!

That sounds awesome to me!:D

I'm so excited about making it to Platinum that I'm considering booking a 4 day cruise for dh and me, in part just to get that much closer to 10 cruises. We have a cruise booked for April, and if we do the 4 day in January I'll be platinum in April. I can't wait!

Now don't go and get all huffy anyone, but I wish Carnival had better benefits for their past guests.

We have sailed Royal Caribbean and Carnival twice each. On our second RC cruise, we received beautiful tote bags in our cabins with the cruise line and the ship name embroidered on them, one for each of us. I use my bag when we go to the beach. I think that is much nicer than a pin, in my opinion. And much more useful.

And like CCL, we had a very nice past guest party.

But we also received coupon books, again one for each of us, that included free pictures, free drinks, free entrance to Johnny Rockets (I know, not applicable on CCL), and many more, which we used.

Don't go and tell me, "Then stick to Royal Caribbean." or some other unkind remark. I just think that it would be nice to make past guests, who sail under 10 times, feel respected and reward us with a little more.

For as many cars as I have bought, I'd sure like to get a years worth of FREE GAS. Also, for being such a loyal shopper at my local grocery store all these years, how about free groceries?? Better yet, how about my mortgage company making some payments on my home??

If you cruise for perks, you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

I do agree with you that RC has better perks, but I love cruising both lines. I can't beat the deals that I get with Carnival. Plus, I love the little baskets of free samples that Carnival gives out. I don't cruise just for the perks, but I do enjoy them. Who doesn't enjoy getting a free gift in appreciation of their customer loyalty? I won't let perks necessarily decide which cruise line I will sail on, but if I get a much better deal on one line vs the other because of a perk, I will certainly take advantage of it.

Who made you the judge of what the "right reasons" are to cruise?

The poster you've quoted made a legitimate and carefully phrased post, and you still jump all over them? Sheesh.

I love RCCL and Carnival and I agree that RCCL has better "onboard" benefits for returning cruisers. But, the Past Guest Discount for Carnival on my sailing was a much higher monetary value... especially since RCCL doesn't discount as often. Usually when a sale or coupon comes out for RCCL, it doesn't apply to prior bookings. But when the Past Guest Discount opens up for your sailing, you simply call and they will apply it.

Again - I like both lines.... we don't cruise for the past guest perks, but they are a nice bonus.

Platinum cruisers also get an embroidered tote bag in their cabin, canapes in the cabin one night and a sweet desert in your cabin on a night also.(Depending on length of your cruise) the perk I love the best is the FREE Laundry. Whoa...that saves me time and quarters. the second best perk is the priority debarkation at ports. Purser escorts you to the front of the line and off you go!

So you see Carnival does treat their Platinum guests well.

So much for "don't get huffy" or an "unkind remark". I guess you missed those parts. If my thought irked you, you could have just said nothing. Why do some people feel the need to comment?

If you are going to comment, at least get the perspective right. Two free totebags and hundred or so dollars worth of coupons is not quite the same as a year's worth of free gas, free groceries, and/or some mortgage payments. A free tank of gas and one week's worth of groceries, maybe. Everything else...not so much.

And as a matter of fact, my local grocery store DOES give away free groceries. I earn a $10 gift card and a 45 cent off each gallon of gas coupon for every $100 I spend. (I paid $2.40 a gallon last week. Still too high but much better than all the other stations around.) So every two to three weeks I get my perks. And no, this market IS NOT more expensive than other markets here.

When deciding on which cruise to take, I look at prices and itineraries. If the two lines' cruises are similar, of course I'll pick the one with the perks. Duh!

Can anyone else answer this: When we booked Liberty for next year, we did not receive any past guest rates or discount. Is this because we have only sailed CCL twice? Should I contact my PVP and inquire about this?

For the record, we love Royal Caribbean AND Carnival. We have had four wonderful cruises so far.

You get a Gold Sail & Sign card, 1 Past Guest Party, Ships Pin and some Online past guest cruise discounts. You wont see any good Perks till you hit 10 cruises, thats Platinum status.

Fred

When did the "Gold S&S Card" start? We cruised to Hawaii four years ago and we had a blue one, and we were past cruisers.

We are not Platinum guests. As I stated in my original post, I think it would be nice for those of us who have not sailed as many times to receive something special.

And you are the Cruise Police on why people should cruise? Excuse me, but you do not get to tell anyone why they should cruise and for what.

I crusie Carnival because I know I will get a good rate and because of my Past Guest allowance it gets be a better deal. And just what reason do you cruise, don't tell me, I do not want to know as it is probably something that is not worth reading.

I'm trying to find out what benefits Carnival offers to their past passengers? Do you get special benefits after 5 cruises?

The perks kick in when you have sailed 10 times. You get a platinum card. So sail a bunch of three day cruises and boom you are platinum. :D

It isn't always available on every sailing, or every category & it could show up later. If you don't want to call Carnival - Do a search on the gnome site for your cruise... make sure you check the "past passenger" box. If there is a past passenger discount, it will show up when the rates come up (it will show with & without the discount). When I originally booked our 2nd Carnival cruise, the PPD was not available... but it did pop up later (I check rates almost daily.) I simply called and they applied the discount... actually at that point, I took a 8-9 category upgrade for only $60 more at that point. :D

After I sailed my first cruise I called for my 2nd and told them I was a past guest. I received an upgrade in the catagory I booked and picked my room. So you can get something after your first cruise. Book when they are offering specials on upgrades or coupons. They are handy also.
