Haven't stayed there as I live in Anchorage. I can tell you it just opened in March, and is very nice. They even have a little store inside. It is located along a row of hotels, including Hilton Garden Inn, Fairfield Inn, and Motel 6. There is a new TGIFridays just off the property.

Thank Denali1!

I'm staying there in September. I had read that Benihana is there...now a TGIF. Great.

ok, currently in Homewood and here is the report:

a very nice place and provides the following 'free' things:
- free internet access in business center (3 terminals with free printer service).
- hot breakfast (with 2 waffle stations)
- (light) dinner, Monday - Thursday only
- airport shuttle service.

Hotel is next to Hilton Garden Inn with Hampton Inn across street. TGI Friday's is right next to hotel and Applebee's and 3 other restaurants next to Hampton Inn.Hotel is at the corner of Tudor and C street.

Layout wise, more like Residence Inn ..The pullout couch in the living room is queen size. has swimming pool, gym, self-serv lanudry, etc.
Also not far from Walmart, FredMeyers and Barnes N' Noble.

Heading to Denali tomorrow ...
(saw Denali today from earthquake park - quite a view).
also, bring OFF - the big/black mosquitos are all over the places in the park

Hi Goblue,
Thanks for the information! Sounds like it really is a nice place and a wise choice in that it includes so much. I didn't know about the light dinner. A pretty good value for Anchorage, I think. I bet they are trying to establish themselves since they are the new kid on the block.

I figured the bugs would be bad - found a Deet product with 30% so thought that would be okay. I am hoping they will be on vacation when we get there....!

How was Denali today? Awesome, no doubt. Thanks!

we're thinking of staying here vs the inlet towers. we'll have a car the 1st night, then up to denali then back to anchorage where we'll be dropping off our avis downtown. anyone know if there's a shuttle or is it walkable back to this hotel? also do they shuttle to the railroad in the morning. I tried calling yesterday and no answer.

Sheree, walkable to which? If the Inlet Tower, it's around a mile or a bit more from the 5th & B Avis office; the Homewood at Tudor & C is not walkable from most anywhere except Tudor and B; bus on C St. though.

thanks, yes I meant homewood. We can use our hhonors points to stay both nights there free vs paying for the inlet. plus it includes breakfast and one of the night's dinners! wasn't worried about the 1st night since we'll have the car and then we're heading to denali. when we come back from denali on wed we're dropping off the car and then we need to get to the rail station thurs morning. will try hotel again re shuttles. guess we could cab it back from the car drop off.

more updates:
1. free internet in the room too (with ethernet cable provided - so you can use your laptop).
2. Washer costs $ 1.75 and dryer costs $1.50.

We used hhonrs for 2 nights too - great savings ! (a trick here - hhnors 800# always said there was no room but do check with the front desk - they will tell you whether there are rooms available for points then you call back the 800# and ask for the certificate and the hotel will honor it - this was how we got the room last night !).

i'm confused about getting the cert and the hotel honoring it? I call hhonors 800 number, both nights were available for 30,000 points each. I had 50,000! SO i put my final payment on the card and one other thing to get the other 10,000. then I plan to call back to reserve them. do you mean they send a cert I use when checking out?

The Benihanas is at the Hawthorn Suites on L and 9th Sts. Thats where we stayed in May and it was right out the front door.

Yellowtail Shiraz, mmmmmm. Good. My roommate drank the last of mine before I got home tonight though.

goblue:
i called 800, no room for points on the 2nd night, i've called the hotel twice, they said only general mgr could ok it, waiting for her to call back. do you recall who you spoke to? i didn't realize I could have made the ressie last week, and jsut waited to get my cert, they had made it sound like I needed the points available at the time.
thanks

shereemcg,
DH did all the talks with 800# and hotel front desk - he said the 800# always told him no room available - but the front desk told him there were rooms available - go figures !
so he then called back the 800# and they (800#) had agreed to send him a certificate (thru email) - apparently a redemption certificate and he printed off and handed to the front desk when we later returned to Anchorage ... (we have many points so I'm not aware of the 'buy points' part.

also, seemed like the hotel was full during the weekdays than weekends ...
