Just off The Legend

Hey guys just wanted you all to know that the Legend is a great ship!!!! WE had the best time on board, including our 3 year old. Every morning he woke up asking about going to the kids club and when he was going next.....The dining room had some really great food and service...and our room stewards were just awesome, having our room made up twice a day...what a treat!!! Just a side note...we were in cabin 8177...we did not hear any noise from the lido deck on level 9 except for one night, so be aware....bathrobes and beer party is a late one and very loud...so plan on going to the party...or you will be up till 1 listening to the ruckus...if I had known, I would have taken a nap earlier in the day and attended it....otherwise, if you are a light sleeper......

We were diverted to Belize and I just love that place....I would like to go back...however my feelings about Roatan are not great...definitely take the advice of everyone and do a shore exercusion(sp).....

MY fiancee and I are doing that cruise in Nov. Can you explain a little more about Roatan? What did you do, what didn't you do, what was the problem? Thanks!

I also just got off the Legend and we had a blast in Roatan. I did the dolphin encounter and went to the Tabanya Beach and loved it! My dh snorkled there and said the snorkling was great off the reef. I just relaxed on the beautiful sandy beach.

Yes Roatan is suppose to be very beautiful, however we did not listen to the advice to book a tour...We just walked around a little bit...the area is extremely poor and it is very overwhelming with all the people and cars in the little area off of the ship...We had a little boy follow us around just trying to please us, and you could tell he needed the money...we ended up just giving him some dollars...there were little girls selling bracelets...and there were all kinds of people just trying to get you to look at their stuff and take you somewhere...I just found it very sad...If I had known I would have booked a tour for sure....

Hi! I am actually on the Miracle in December so don't know if the activities can be comparable between ships, but you are one of the first on a Spirit-class vessel that I've seen w/ a cabin near the one I have booked (8183)- did you generally sleep w/ your balcony door open or closed? Just getting a feel for the Lido noise on the one night you mentioned :)

Thank you so much!!:p

We slept with the door closed, man it must be a great party....our cabin was shaking from all the dancing at times...and they have the music blasting...definitely stay out for the night or bring ear plugs...otherwise all was good!!!

I am glad we did what we did then! Wasn't it a great cruise? Weather was perfect and sailing was extremely smooth. What did you do in Belize? We didn't do anything there, because I didn't want to do cave tubing or zip lining.

It was an awesome cruise, I'm ready to go back...laundry all done...well I need to lose the ten pounds I probably gained and then I'm ready to go back...We just went into the port in Belize and walked around...had some lunch...just basically enjoyed ourselves...I think we were a little messed up because of the change in destinations...We already decided what were going to do in Costa Maya...obviously that was out....so we decided to just take it easy...We are all addicted to cruising now!!!! I really couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Maybe I can answer that question...As a person who lives here, I do MY best to avoid Coxen Hole on any day...even with no ships in port.

Coxen Hole is the "town" on our island of Roatan, where the cruise ship dock is located...Unfortunately, with the dock being "in town", every person who thinks they can pressure a cruiser into buying something (i.e. souvenir) is there in the morning especially, and some even when you return.....Even school children (often skipping school) are at the dock to offer you their "tour guide" services.

Roatan is part of Honduras which is a 3rd world country. Unfortunately, that is the reality. A lot of people here see the tourists as the ability to make ONE DAYS PAY with 10 minutes of work. Why work, when a tourist will GIVE you money to stop bothering them. The police do their best to keep the vendors away from the dock...but all that means is a little room to breathe, before you encounter them.

But don't that deter you. I moved here for a reason, and that is because of how beautiful it is here on our island....the reef is so close to the shore...snorkeling is soooo easy...the color of the water...the stillness of the water on a better beach like West Bay...

...the terrain, the trees, the zip lines...etc...etc...etc...

It's not the USVI, or T&C or CAYMAN for shopping....yet...but it's go that wonderful true Caribbean flavour.:D

For my guests, we get them away from the dock as soon as possible, so that they can get on with enjoying the island...away from the chaos that one would experience if they were to hang around the dock....

I hope that helps the "book an excursion" statement from the other poster.

So glad you enjoyed yourself. I am assuming it was your first cruise, but doesn't look like it will be your last! I really enjoyed the layout of the Legend. Very easy to get around. The only place I didn't enjoy on the ship was the Casino. Just too much odor from the smoke. But it saved me money in the long run I am sure.

Hi,

As someone who lives and works here on Roatan, I was wondering if you would be willing to share what you didn't like about it. Perhaps there is something we can do to change the experience others might have in the future. Those of us who live here can't imagine people not always loving it.

Hope to hear from you,

Roatan Bruce

What would you recommend for restaurants around the area if we decide NOT to do an excursion?
