du4mch Posted September 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2007 I just got off the phone with Carnival. I was planning on doing a Western Caribbean cruise on the Glory this November. Nov. 3rd- 10th to be exact! I was told they changed their Ports of call! They will not be stopping at Belize or Costa Maya- [obviously]. They will be going to Progresso & Key West instead! I was looking forward to revisiting Belize, so i'm looking for another cruise! Is Belize in Bad shape? I havn't heard?
gottacruisesoon Posted September 20, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2007 I am thinking it must be. The cruise lines wouldn't change if it weren't. The hurricanes of this summer have really wreaked havoc on the area down there. I only hope that the people are ok and that they are rebuilding so that we can go back again soon. KenMo Posted September 20, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2007 I believe Legend is still going to Belize. There were a couple of reviews about it here recently. One good, one bad. I'd still go to Belize.....I love it there!
yankeegolfcruiser Posted September 20, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Everyone Belize is in fine shape. I was on the phone with the Caye Chapel people(Belize's golf course) and they say everything is fine. I know the Carnival Legend and the Carnival Valor are going there. Why the Glory is/has changed its itinerary one doesn't know, Perhaps I should get in touch with the Shadow. So if anyone has heard anything and who they've spoken too please post it here. Or if we are breaking rules you can e-mail me at jmottsa@optonline.net
faeriechick Posted September 20, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Hot off the presses: Glory 09/22 will be doing Cozumel, Belize, Roatan and Freeport. They are still working on future dates and have not announced anything as of yet.
editor@cruisecritic Posted September 20, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Hi, Yankee Golf Cruiser! Just checking in to see if there was anything new about Belize here -- and since there's not (Carnival still does not know WHY Glory's not going to Belize) we're going to go ahead and post the item you helped us with.... Give it 30 minutes. And we checked with Belize tourism folks -- and they say all's well. So...who knows. I encourage anyone who receives a real response to this to drop me a note at editor@cruisecritic.com. And the news item will be here: www.cruisecritic.com/news. Not without revealing myself in a way I'd rather not at this time. :) However, you can call and confirm with Carnival since the information was made public oh...... about a half an hour ago. I don't believe it's posted on the website as of yet. :)

PelicanBill Posted September 20, 2007 #10 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Part of the re-planning of a ship's itinerary has to do with port schedules and time to cruise between ports. It may be that with the loss of Costa Maya, as they tried to substitute other ports, they could not get all the way down to Belize or back to connect with another port. It's a long way down to Belize at 18mph.

legalwife Posted September 20, 2007 #12 Share Posted September 20, 2007 I spoke with Carnival on Tuesday and they said Glory is still not ironed out but they should know by end of week. Agent didn't know why they may not be going to Belize, but confirmed others are. She told me to call back Friday.

faeriechick Posted September 20, 2007 #15 Share Posted September 20, 2007 You mean this official word? Nope, the official word they sent out this morning. The Glory for 09/22 is going to Cozumel, Belize, Roatan and Freeport. According to my info, they have not yet finalized their port changes for further dates. I would much rather go to Freeport than Nassau and I really did not want to miss Belize. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed this is true!

I would much rather go to Freeport than Nassau and I really did not want to miss Belize. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed this is true! Yeah, it definitely seems like a better fit. And would probably keep those guests a lot happier! Well, except for the people who were looking forward to going to Key West. I actually had to deal with a man the other day who was DEMANDING that Carnival take him to Costa Maya. He didn't care that the entire place was destroyed and there was nothing to do, he just wanted to go there.
faeriechick Posted September 20, 2007 #19 Share Posted September 20, 2007 So the official word is they don't know. For future sailings, they are working on it. For this weekend, it's been finalized.
DqALEX Posted September 20, 2007 #20 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Im booked on the Glory in late January. I hope we keep Key West. I would like to go back to Belize for the scuba.
CrusinAgain Posted September 20, 2007 #21 Share Posted September 20, 2007 I wonder why Freeport and not Nassau? I just read it takes 25 minutes to get to anything like shopping or casinos. And yes, we were one of the ones wanting to see Key West since we have been to Belize more than once.

CrusinAgain Posted September 20, 2007 #23 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Its probably more of a time/distance thing, in order to fit Belize into the equation. Okay but Nassau and Belize was the original schedule so I doubt its a time/distance problem for choosing Freeport over Nassau - doesn't make sense. Right, but I was actually referring to the Western itinerary that the Glory has been doing over the past few weeks.
