I wonder if anyone knows... is this the same company that Celebrity does their excursion with?

I am unable to book with Celebrity online. It says to "Try Onboard"....

We went on it about 3 weeks ago, and frankly I consider it to be a waste of money. Rather spend extra and do the helicopter and sledding on the glacier that is apparently awesome. I'd be interested to see others' experience with this company. We spent a total of 4-5 minutes on the wheeled sled and there were no puppies. In fact the guide actually said to us "I'm glad you guys didn't ask about the puppies.!" I guess they don't always have puppies, just many, many huskies tied up to their little dog houses.

We did this tour last August and it was quite fun! Our ride on the sled was about 15 minutes. Before and after our ride we were able to hold and play with some of the puppies (my 12 year old daughter didn't want to leave!!). There were small refreshments after the ride, too. The guides were great and it was a beautiful ride from the dock to the dog camp. I would love to take the helicopter/glacier dogsledding some day, but with 4 of us this was a compromise for the first visit to Alaska. Gives us something to look forward to on our next cruise!

We did this tour out of Skagway/Dyea. It's not a super long time on the sled with the dogs pulling - it's too hot and the sled weighs something like 1800 lbs (plus they put up to 8 people on it!) ... but it's fun to learn about dog sledding in general and the people were very nice. It was also a good way for animal lovers to get their animal fix! icon_smile.gif

First cruise on Serenade of the Seas, 5/30/04!

Haven't taken this tour. But had originally booked it through RCCL for our 6/25/04 Vision cruise. But then we decided to bite the bullet and go for the glacier dogsledding instead. We did do some research though before doing this and found that they also have dogsledding on wheels in Seward. Which is where we will be getting off the ship at the end of our cruise and will have some extra time to kill before our 11:30 PM flight. The cost is only $44 for adults and $22 for kids which is a whole lot less than the tour they sell through the ship. So if anyone has any extra time in Seward and wants to try this for a lot less money, here's their website for more information:

I just got back from my cruise and I did this tour through Princess. I actually thought it was good. Not outstanding but good.

It was about a 30 minute ride out to Dyea. They break the group of 12 into 2 groups. 6 play with the dogs while the other 6 go dog sledding for 45 minutes total and then they switch.

The 45 minutes you play with the dogs - you also see the sleds, the garments the dogs can wear, they did have puppies for us but the mama was very protective so we didn't pet the puppies.

During the next 45 minutes - they transport you up to where the dogs are (5 minute ride). You learn about the dogs up there and get on the sled. You ride up a hill and they stopped once to give the dogs a break (12 dogs total I believe) and then they stopped at the top of the hill and they gave the dogs water and they got another break. We then took the dogs on a ride down the hill. We were probably only on the sled for 20 of the 45 minutes but it was fun and I learned a lot. You then go 30 minutes back to the ship.

The dogs are very gentle and friendly. The musher who was with us was named Hugh and he was "Rookie of the Year" during this year's Iditeroid (sp?). He was very nice and answered all of our questions.

I did take pictures but it will probably take me a week to get them up on a web page. The dogs pulled 6 tourists plus the dog musher and a second person who was learning the trade.

I know it is not the same as landing on a glacier and going dog sledding there but it also isn't $400.
