coder Posted August 29, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2004 We will be on the Zenith 9-11-04 and plan on going to the Hamilton street fair. We will be in St. George that day. Has anyone taken a taxi from St. George to Hamilton? Any idea what the price will be? Thanks

Has anyone taken a taxi from St. George to Hamilton? Any idea what the price will be? Thanks I go to Bermuda every year, but not on a cruise. The taxi's are very $$$$$..$6.00 the 1st mile and then $2.10 each add. mile to give you some idea.It will probably cost about $30.00 with tip or so. You can also take the bus in to Hamilton and back as it runs late back to St.George and at a fraction of the cost.We do not use the taxi's while there unless we really have to. Dave King Posted August 30, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2004 Instead of paying cab fares, go to the top of the hill from the cruise terminal and get a Bus Pass. Not sure of the cost but it'll pay you. You can use it for several days at no extra charge. Great way of getting around Bermuda. Enjoy your cruise. dave
Imagolfnut Posted August 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2004 Taxi's are only expensive if you're by yourself. We've used them almost exclusively - if you share the taxi with other people, the fare is divided among how many - so if you had 6 people sharing a taxi and the fare was $30 - it would cost $5 per person + tip of course. If you go it alone, you pay the entire fare.
traveller99 Posted August 31, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2004 Coder... Here's a link that'll help. Dave is right about the bus. There is a high speed ferry service between St. George's and Hamilton that I believe is part of the cost of transportation pass. This is a good site for info. http://www.experiencebermuda.com/transpo/index.html?type=ferries
MeBob Posted September 4, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 4, 2004 Dont bother going to the Hamilton Street Fair. It's really not worth it.

The cab fares increased 20% on september 1, 2004. I think the amount list above is low, It would be closer to $50.00. The bus is a good option. You can get 15 4 fare zone tokens for $25.00 which is a better value than a whole day pass for $12,00 single rides are $4.00 token or coin only... We used taxis and they were fine but the price has gone up. We took a cab from the Dockyards to Horseshoe beach, It was $19.00(pre sept 1). plus tip. Back was more we stopped for soda and beer but we split the fare with someone. If we had bought one day ticks it would have cost $36.00 this was a little more but worth the extra time on the beach....IMO
KenBenz Posted September 6, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2004 The taxi fare from Hamilton to St. George was $48.00 this past Wednesday... Ken
Ocean Boy Posted September 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 6, 2004 That one ride was more expensive than the daily cost of a scooter rental and much more expensive than a three day bus pass.

billpitcher Posted September 8, 2004 #11 Share Posted September 8, 2004 The ferry from Hamilton to St. George is worth the ride, but it's not useful for people trying to attend Harbor Nights since the last one leaves in midafternoon 2:30.
margaretmerrill Posted September 9, 2004 #12 Share Posted September 9, 2004 Just got back. A 3 day bus ferry pass is now $35. A one day pass is $12. There wasn`t much at the Hamilton street fair. They had a short exhibition of some native dancers in costume, and that was the only interesting thing I saw.
CruisFran Posted September 10, 2004 #13 Share Posted September 10, 2004 The local dancers are Gombey's...I enjoy watching the teeny young ones. Harbor Night is a nice stroll-around (usually a lot of vendors are there, so you can pick up items without searching all over), and get a bit of shopping done, as the stores are open late.
