Port of Call cancelled for Century in Morocco

Events in Casablanca, however, have caused us to have some lingering concerns regarding safety issues. Because of these concerns, and after extensive input from U.S. government officials, as recently as the last few days, we have decided that the most prudent course of action is to cancel our port call in Casablanca.

 

This decision is based on our concern for safety of your clients, and that of our crew members. We apologize for this alteration to your clients’ scheduled itinerary, and we thank you and your clients for understanding.

 

Instead of visiting Casablanca, we are adding a new port call to the itinerary. Celebrity Century will now visit Malaga, Spain, October 9, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. We are confident your clients will enjoy their time there.

Hmmm...I wonder if Casablanca will be nixed from our Century transatlantic cruise in December. It's already set to call on Malaga, so they'll have to substitute a different port.

There's another possibility, and that's Ceuta. This is a very strange port: it's Spanish but it's in Africa, on the southern side of the Straits of Gibraltar.Some cruise lines make occasional calls there.

Thanks much for the info. I'm wondering if they will also cancel our stop there in November. After following the state departments site, since April it appears to be a hotbed and doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. I was so looking forward to going there. At any rate Malaga or Gibraltar sounds great!

Well, we'll probably lose the port in three weeks....although, secretly, I was hoping, that if they had to subsitute, we'd go to Madiera...maybe you December folks will be lucky, and go there....

Stopped in Funchal, Madiera on a prior transatlantic and it was beautiful. No problem as far as we're concerned if X uses it as a substitute. While it isn't quite as exotic as Casablanca, it's certainly worth a(nother) visit.

I was looking forward to going to Marakesh but it is simply not to be. Malaga will be fine instead. It's a European cruise vacation(/seminar). I'll deal with it!

Thanks for the update - we are on a December TA and scheduled for a stop in Casablanca .

 

We have been thinking for some time they would cancel as so many other cruise lines have cancelled the port this year.

 

A stop in Maderia would be just fine with me -

We were on the Eastern TA crossing on Galaxy last May and we too had Casablanca cancelled and went to Ibiza instead.

 

In our case no one knew till we got to our embarkation in San Juan... it was actually no surprise at all as their had been some terrorist activity in the two months preceeding the cruise.

 

We did however go to Agadir Morocco and enjoyed that stop.

Also on the Century for the December TA. Although we booked this cruise for the stops in Morocco, if and when they cancel Casablanca, Maderia would be great. We loved it when were there two years ago on another TA. (You have to do the excursion that has the sleds sliding down the road, was great fun)

Celebrity just posted that our itinerary for the Century 10/22 cruise has changed...skipping Casablanca, and going to Malaga as well.:rolleyes:

 

Apparently, there's a Malaga wine that similar to port, so we can at least drown any sorrows with a glass of that!
