Bequia Posted September 29, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2007 Awsome property for the family and kids. The lazy river pool and being situated directly on the ocean are what makes this property a gem. There's even an ice cream parlor at the hotel. Be sure to get a room in the "tower" section. The only downside (according to others, not a problem for me) is the location is not within walking distance shops and restaurants. //////////////////////////
lv2croos Posted November 26, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Bequia, are there any hotels that are actually on the beach such as the Pelican Grand but are also within walking distance of shops and restaurants? Thanks
LEESRE Posted November 26, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 26, 2007 we have stayed at the Pelican Beach resort and it is FAB!! You can get a bus right outside the property to the shops and Malls. ALso you can walk to the Water Taxi station, I am well aware that Americans don't like walking but it really is not that far. Only downside of the property is the receptionists they are not very smiley.
Bequia Posted November 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 26, 2007 The Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and the Sheraton Yankee Clipper are both on the beach. The Sun Trolley runs past them every 15 minutes Thursday thru Sunday. The 50 cent Sun Trolley will take you to the many shops and restaurants on SE 17th Street or you can shop and eat on Las Olas (our version of Rodeo Drive) after transferring from the Sun Trolley to the Las Olas Boulevard route. SE 17th Street Sun Trolley: http://www.suntrolley.com/maps/convention.html Las Olas Sun Trolley Route: http://www.suntrolley.com/maps/las_olas.html This route may actually run past the Pelican Grand, you can transfer to the routes above: http://www.suntrolley.com/maps/tri-rail.html
Marge106 Posted November 27, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 27, 2007 We are already booked for a pre-cruise at the Pelican in January. Bequia do you recommend that we rent a car for the one day we are there. I guess we can return it to the airport on Sunday and hop a taxi back to the the Port. Thanks, Marge
Bequia Posted November 27, 2007 #7 Share Posted November 27, 2007 Marge, it really depends on what you want to do. The Trolley is a great service and you can't beat the price.

movinout Posted November 30, 2007 #9 Share Posted November 30, 2007 I came across this one, sounds good for a family/with kitchen on the beach and reasonable...never stayed there but it was #2 on Trip Advisor and I have always had good luck with Trip Advisor recommendations. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34296-d519585-Reviews-Atlantic_Sands_Beach_Suites-Hollywood_Florida.html
