Carnival Liberty 09/23/07 review (LONG)

I'm not a huge fan of buffet food, either. We just came off the Wonder, and the once at the buffet was enough for me. But I was wondering if the OP tried the room service on the Liberty. That's what we did when we were on the Magic, and got stuck with late seating (I know some people like it, but we eat early, and my blood sugar won't tolerate going that long without dining). Well, that and those addictive chicken tenders...

well Creepella, the room service on the Magic is soooooooooo much better in my opinion - you could actually get chicken fingers and burgers on it. On the Liberty , it was basically cold sandwiches and you get a little tired of cold sandwiches after awhile (atleast we did, but I am sure I will be creamed for that comment also !!)

My husband and I thought the buffet was horrible, so right there was the problem , which I tried to state earlier.

I find it hard to believe that you both thought everything on the buffet was horrible. Was the variety horrible or the food itself? Goodness there are not enough hours on a cruise to try every type of food they offer. And the free sushi bar opens at 5:30 for those who like sushi (not me but my DH) to hold you over until a later dinner. We were on the Liberty on 9/1 and we never found it hard to find something to eat at ALL times - maybe not "exactly" what you had in mind but hey this is a vacation - relax a bit. I don't know of any land based resort where you could get food 24/7 without using room service - and that too - is available on a cruise. I really think that a few things about this cruise annoyed you and it spiraled out from there. Personally we thoroughly enjoyed our recent cruise and hope to go again soon.

1. This information is clearly listed in the Capers. We just got off our 4th Carnival cruise, and it listed what dining room, and what time.

2. We have sailed 3 different cruiselines, and have never gotten the dining assignment we wanted. I have never been more than the 4th person in line. The worst was on RCCL when it took them 4 days to give us the table we wanted - only to ask the waiter where we had been all week - the table was empty!

3. Buffet lines can be long. This was our 4th Carnival cruise and the entire buffet was open during peak times, then they scaled back as it got closer to changeover. That's why we use room service - 24 hours and never more than a 30 minute wait.

4. I don't think I have every read on this board where Carnival does beef well.

5. Again, the Capers lists all of the food options. There were at least 2 options for food available 24 hours a day on all 4 of my Carnival cruises.

6. We complained about a shore excursion at the Purser's Desk. They contacted the Shore Excursion desk and we recevied a letter with the resolution the next day. It didn't need to be dealt with instantly...

7. No comment.

8. Our dining room never opened on time either. Since we had late seating, we would rather them open a few minutes late, than force other vacationers to get out before they were done...

We stopped rushing to get there on time and by being a few minutes late, we walked right in...

9. We were annoyed that they didn't play the announcements in the cabin.

10. Smoke is a problem (I'm allergic, too). I thought all Carnival ships were now smoke-free on the port side. Will have to research that for next cruise. When we went to the pool deck, we saw chairs with flip-flops on them for about 3 hours. Couple didn't show up until the place was packed. THen they lit up. I took great joy in telling them they couldn't smoke there. SHe put hers out, he kept smoking. I used a courtesy phone to call security and they were outta there ;)

While I certainly see where your cruise wasn't perfect, what was the nightmare? We had a fabulous time last week on our 4th Carnival cruise - in spite of buffet lines, smoky lounges, and oh, yeah - our bathroom floor drain bubbled up into the cabin on Formal night while we were getting ready...

Sorry to hear you had a bad time - please let me know where you can guarantee your dinner assignment pre-cruise. Thanks!

Jenny,

Don't take this the wrong way ..no flame here;) ....but what the hell ship were you on!.

I do realize it's all in the eye of the beholder..but I was there and did that.

As you can see I have been on other cruise-lines so I have no loyalty towards CCL, but it's hard for me to believe that 2 weeks later it (Your Cruise) went to hell in a hand basket.

Geesh... Life is short..I hope your next vacation is better no matter where it is.:D

I am not willing to say anything negative in the carnival board anymore so I will just say the entertainment was alright. Although after being on a disney cruise and seeing there shows, I do not think anything could compare.

In my opinion, nothing compares to Disney entertainment. lol Of course, I "grew up Disney" in Orlando, so I am prejudiced.:p

I've never been on a Disney cruise. I'd love to try one, but my husband won't do a cruise that doesn't have a casino. I believe they also cost a bit more, but could be wrong.

I hope your next cruise is a little taste of heaven. :)

Hey just checking in, haven't posted in this thread in a couple of days. Amazing to see that it is still going strong. Are we still flaming the OP over the review or have we moved on to small talk. Let me know so I can get back involved in this thing. :D

Mmmmmm, Chicken fingers delivered to your cabin on a cruise...not exactly what it takes to convince me to pick a cruise line or ship. How's Frappee, not cream.

Hey I was thinking ... since there was hardly any food on the ship, maybe we could get that dude off the save-a-child commercials (the ones where he is in a 3rd world country trying to get you to adopt a child) to do a commercial asking for donations to help the starving people of the Liberty. Yes for only 58 cents per day you can help a competent grown person find food without long lines on a $100 quadrillion ship! Please help, ... they may not make it past today. And we will send you a photo of the cruiser you adopt to show others how you made a difference in the world. Please call now ... operators are standing by.

:D :D :D
