Statendam Loses TWO Anchors - we just got back

We had a somewhat similar experience on Royal Carib's Rhapsody of the Seas during their inaugural season. On that cruise, Ketchikan was the next port after Sitka. While docked in Ketchikan, i noticed that the port side anchor chain wasn't stowed quite the way it normally would be, so when we got off the ship i looked up at the port bow and discovered that there was a large square shaft hanging on the end of the chain but the head of the anchor was missing.

That evening, the ship's engineer was at our table for dinner, so I asked him about it. He said that it simply broke while bringing it up in Sitka. As we came into Vancouver, we swung over by the drydocks and slowed, a crane swung out and deposited a new anchor on the bow deck and we proceeded into port right on schedule.

I'm thinking there must be a lot of broken anchors in Sitka harbor.
