Aplmac Posted October 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2007 We will be traveling with my 81 yrs young mother. ===> You GO,girl! How is the glass bottom boat tour? ===> for a wheelchair person? maybe not. We are in need of an excursion that has wheelchair accommodations. I'd suggest Harbour Master, a stable, twin hull,platform-type boat with a roll-on/roll-off type loading ramp at the bow,if I remember rightly. I'm sure they've done a few wheelchairs in their time! Three decks of fun. It's nice, I've been. Most stable accessible boat I can think of, for a wheelchair user. They'll do you a Lunch cruise down the calm West Coast(usually) park it up for an hour while people swim(and they get Lunch ready) then everyone eats, and it's time for the trip back to their dock, which is not far away from the Port where your ship will be berthed - in fact you'll pass your ship on the way in and out! Aplmac Posted October 12, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2007 Just spoke with one of their Captains... and he confirms the roll-on/roll-off type front loading ramp for you and a whole wheelchair army, if necessary. Their day cruise leaves the Tall Ships dock at 11 sharp and is back by 3:30 p.m. and yes they are punctual (always have been!) so as long as your ship's not leaving before 5 p.m. everything should fall into place, time-wise. Think I'll be doing a special Harbour Master photo-trip Wednesday, so please check this thread again, on Wednesday evening, I should have a few nice pics to illustrate things, including a shot of that front-loading ramp, just for you. Aplmac Posted October 17, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 17, 2007 I was wrong about Harbour Master being a twin-hulled vessel. It's not. It's a single hull. Nevertheless, at 40 ft. wide, she's stable, and I spent much of the afternoon at the helm, as we cruised back to port, but the picture that the Capt. took of me wasn't flattering, so no show, sorry! ....................... Now: that wheelchair-capable loading ramp I promised earlier in the week! See pix attached. never mind the 6 inch. bump-up to the ramp that you'll see in my detail picture ...I spoke with the loading master and he says they've done many wheelchairs in their time and you shall be boarded, and easily. That big blue thing on the ramp...what's that for? As I discovered when we stopped for a swim/snorkel/jet-skis, this is used to make beaching visitors easier, as an extension to the larger ramp you see in the pics. All shall become clear to you, when you take this coastal cruise. ............................ Oh! How much? Their 11 a.m. - 3:30 day cruise is Bds.$135 which is the equivalent of U.S.$ 67.50 (just divide Bds.$ 135 by 2, and you have the U.S.Dollar equivalent) Incidentally, wife and I had a blast, the lunch was tasty ohh yeah! There's a big ole waterslide on the starboard side which gets lowered once we're stopped for watersports, and photos of that and other turquoise water enjoyments follow. Watch this space! Aplmac Posted October 18, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 18, 2007 - nice day! the water really is this colour. in fact, I reduced colour saturation by 10% in Photoshop to bring it somewhat real
