It appears that the Holetown Festival will be occuring when our ship docks Feb. 15, 2005 ... well if it's held the same week each year :). The question is should we make an extra effort to stop by or just continue with the normal toursit stuff. At the moment we're leaning toward the 4X4 tour with little extra time to spare, but we could be swayed on this point. Thanks for any help on this matter.

If my notes are correct for 2005, it will be held between 2/15 and 2/22, so you’ll be there for the opening festivities.

Now, should you defer the normal tourist stuff to see it? I wouldn’t.

Don’t get me wrong, It is a nice festival, but I would suggest that it is targeted to the locals and people staying for a longer time on the island that have already seen what the island has to offer.

Some of the most interesting things occur at night, like the night marches by the Royal Barbados Police Force Band. The music festival at the parish church is also quite good. But much of the rest, lectures, beauty contests, small parades may not hold the interest of some.

I suggest that you do the 4x4 tour and if you have an extra hour or two, bus, shuttle or taxi up to Holetown and check it out, but please don't miss the sights in lieu of the festival, I think you’d be disappointed.

Have a wonderful time on the island! :)

Thanks for such a quick response .. and we'll take your advise and stick to the original plan. I just didn't want to be sailing away and saying to our selves ..gee we should have gone to the festival!
