Hi

I have alluded to this on several other threads but with no response. That's what i get for trying to hijack a thread. lol.

I have cruised the Mexican Riviera on Princess, NCL and Carnival. I would like to try a new line. ( Carnival was my favorite but i just went on the Pride in March). I'll waint for RCCL when the MOS gets here.

I once had an awesome balcony deal on HAL but backed out because something about the ship spooked me. lol

Are there any fun things to do? Any nighttime deck parties? at all? Are people friendly? Is it stuffy? I like my casual clothes. But i have some formal wear.

I am not a huge partier but dont want to be bored either.

Any past cruisers can you tell me?

I want to go end of november, early december.

Was thinking of traveling to western carribean but seems to be a lack of resonable hotel rooms. Unless i risk taking the redeye and arrive day of.

Thanks for any help or advice...good or bad.

I am waiting to take NCL again when i have my credit card ceritifcate, almost up to $500 now. Need a month or two or three.

I cruised to Alaska with 3 teenagers in August 2006 on Oosterdam. We had a good time, ship was nice, not too fancy, not stuffy IMO. We only dressed up for dinner in the dining room, we wore jeans and shorts most of the time. Shows were good, food was good but not great. The servers in the dining room were great, they treated all of us with respect and got along great with 3 teenagers. Night life was lacking, mostly couples, a LOT of people did the line dancing lessons. Daily trivia was fun for all ages. I would take Oosterdam to Mexico, but would try to find a cruise that appeals to more solo travelers and people in there 20's to 40's, not during school holidays etc... Hope this helps. Our Balcony cabin was nice and not too expensive for 4 people.

HAL will be more like Princess, than Carnival. What spooked you about HAL before out of curiosity?

I love Holland America and the Oosterdam. As I'm sure you know, all sailings are different, and you'll have to try it to see how you like it yourself. I don't however remember any nightime deck parties. To me, any cruise is fantastic and I've always met friendly people. If you feel different, then, stick with what you know you like!!! :) If you were 'spooked' before, I don't know what to tell you. I've never passed up a good deal on a Balcony Cabin. Wish I could be more helpful, but, you don't say much about yourself or what you like to do onboard.

I did the Mexican Riviera cruise on Oosterdam last January as a solo, however I was on an escorted singles cruise for over 40 year olds. I had a great time with the singles and a small group of cruise critics. Frankly the cruise critics were the most fun. There is not a lot of nightlife. It's quiet and layed back, but pax and crew were friendly.During the day if you find yourself with not much to do ,just go to the crow,s nest or on deck and watch the dolphins & whales.

thank you all for your input.

well, today i went and booked the Pride again for the week after Thanksgiving.

loved my balcony on the last cruise but i cheaped out this time and booked a 1a. i paid $657 for a 1a GTY.

i didnt want to wait until January to cruise on the great deal on HAL.

jjb415 have a wonderful cruise.

i thought Princess was a little sedate for me....great people onboard but seemed boring, and i was not a solo on that one!
