Pollypops Posted October 21, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2007 Some friends are going to the Caribbean in January, flying with Thomson to New Orleans to join Arcadia. They are wondering what happens with their luggage when they get to New Orleans - do they have to collect their suitcases, or are they transferred straight to the ship? Also coming back (from Barbados), will they have to put their cases out the night before disembarking, like we do at Southampton, and have them automatically transferred to the airport? Thanks, Polly

tom_uk Posted October 21, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 21, 2007 Don't you have to enter the US at your point of arrival? Wouldn't that normally mean getting your bags and then going through immigration? That's what we've had to do whenever we've flown to the USA. Once they've let you in, that's when I would expect to be able to contact the cruiseline reps and hand over the bags.

In Barbados they send the luggage to the ship it is not handled by local bag handlers. Passengers do not enter Barbados you get on a bus and on to the ship then formalities take place. I think something like this happens in New Orleans. :):)Happy Cruising:):) Dai
annieuk Posted October 22, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2007 We flew to New Orleans to join a P&O cruise a couple of years ago. Our luggage was sent straight to the ship. We had to go through immigration with the photo and finger prints taken. Annie
Pontius Navigator Posted October 22, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2007 OTOH we flew through Miami and had to collect our luggage. A few of the pax from Birmingham flew into Bangor Maine. Their baggage was off-loaded and customs searched at Bangor before being reloaded for their onward flight. Not everyone got everything back.
