Helenjones Posted October 21, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2007 I'm thinking of going to Antarctica on Explorer II but my travel agent advises against their trips because the Antarctica cruises are run by Abercrombie & Kent. Does anyone have any recent experience with Explorer II? Helenjones
cruiseyguy Posted October 21, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2007 A&K is one of the best travel providers in the world. Why would that be a problem?
TedC Posted October 21, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 21, 2007 We went on Explorer II Jan. of last year and loved it. Regent chartered the ship for a couple of cruises and had a chef and rep aboard. I think Regent is scheduling more Antarctic cruises this season because of demand. It's a trip of a lifetime - don't miss it!
Ms Understood Posted October 23, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 23, 2007 We are booked Feb 08 thru Regent on Explorer II. I believe that trip is sold out. I hear such good things about A&K so I am also wondering why thats a problem?
Mercury Posted October 23, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 23, 2007 We were on ExplorerII and had an absolutely wonderful, unforgettable cruise to Antarctica. Here is a link to the review I wrote: http://www.cruisereviews.com/RadissonSevenSeasCruises/ExplorerII1.htm Don't hesitate - Book it!
roberts2005 Posted October 23, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2007 Maybe the travel agent makes less money!
Jade13 Posted November 15, 2007 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2007 Maybe the travel agent makes less money! One TA told me they made a higher commission if the Explorer II/Minerva was booked through Regent vs A&K.
Tia Serena Posted November 23, 2007 #8 Share Posted November 23, 2007 A&K has a standing traditon of almost two decades of Antarctic Travel, first on the "Little Red Ship" (that is sinking as I write this) and on the Explorer 2. Victoria Underwood who does the staffing (hires the lecturer and Zodiac drivers) is the most reputed lady in regards expedition cruisings and part of the Iaato board. On the change from the little ship to the big ship A&K has raised the staff salary to guarantee that they would have the best. The hotel is top notch, the food delicious, almost everybody seems to be happy to be working on board. Choose another Travel Agent and book you trip!
