Hotel recommendations SF and Vancouver

Taking Alaska cruise from San Francisco to Vancouver next May in Infinity. Staying a few days in SF before the cruise and Vancouver post cruise. Can anyone recommend hotels please. Don't want to spend mega bucks but don't want to spoil the cruise by "penny pinching". Also how far from the hotels will the ports be. Thanks Marilyn
