Thanks for the link....I'll keep it handy for future posts. Or for a reference/FAQ sticky if we ever have one.

 

It is amazing how many people buy tickets and never think of the legal basis for their purchase. Yes, it is possible for any airline to deliver more than the CoC specifies. But, it is important to know the baseline that an airline can fall back to. AirTran basicly says that they will eventually transport you on their flights. Same with Southwest. Nothing more, including any expenses for any delays. Both say that if that is not enough, you can get your money back for whatever you haven't flown.....which doesn't really help you out.

 

My advice: find the CoC for the airline you are flying, download the CoC, print out the sections dealing with irregular operations and carry them with you. Then, it is clear to you what their obligations are. (Also, the CoC are supposed to be available for inspection at all airports, at the selling desk)
