What happens

depends on the reason, too. leaving greenland we hit a storm. we had to turn into the wind and wait it out for 16 hours. consequently, we missed our stop in newfoundland. port taxes of 6 dollars and change were automatically credited to our shipboard accounts.

It also depnds on how far in advance they decide to skip a port. It take time to arrange to go to another port.

Yep. Back in late Aug. or early Sept. Princess cancelled our Moroccan/Casablanca port (on our Star Princess Med/TA (12/3) ) because of State Department warnings. We are now scheduled for Cadiz, Spain. We only found out about it because we have a tight Cruise Critic board going and people saw their excursions to that port being cancelled and told the rest of us! (this CC board is the best!)

No matter what, the cruise lines are in to safety and for that we are all thankful. So sit back and enjoy the detour and have some ice cream!:)

Just off the Caribbean Princess - 4 Nov. Capt told us that we would not be able to go to Princess Cay and that passengers above age 6 would get a $15 credit for the missed port. So we had an extra sea day on our return to Fort Lauderdale.

When we did the SE Asia cruise last year, we were battling Hurricane Kai Mai and ended up having two days in Hong kong instead of six hours. The end result was that we missed Pusan and had just half a day in Nagasaki.

This past July/Aug, we missed Guernsey on our BI cruise and had a sea day. It was actually great as it gave us a chance to rest and explore the ship.

The captain will never skip a port just because he feels like it, so rest assured that if you don't get into a port, he is operating with your safety in mind.
