CabinForFour Posted September 4, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2004 We have stayed twice at the Wyndham Old San Juan, which is directly across the street from where many of the ships port. You can see some photos of the hotel/area at the link below, "Benjamin's Birthday Cruise." Its right in the middle of Old San Juan, so anything you may want to see or do there is within easy walking distance.
normaxs Posted September 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 4, 2004
Hi I am going on the Destiny Dec5 and need help with a hotel for 9 people near the pier for Dec4 anyone no anything.[/QUOTE We have stayed at the Wyndam in Old San Juan. It is a little pricy but it has a great location in Old City. Have you verified if you are leaving from the Pier in Old City? If so, the Wyndam is right across the street. Try to take the time to wander around, it has some lovely shops & I enjoy the atmoshpere. It isn't too far a walk to El Morro, the fort. hstrybuf Posted September 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 4, 2004 We stayed at the Wyndam Old San Juan before our Destiny cruise. I love the fact that it's so conveniently located to everything in the old city. You can walk up La Princessa to El Morro then tour the shopping area. Lots of cobblestone streets and architecture gives it an old world feel. If you do some research you'll find some good stores and restaurants in the area. My favorite was the Parrot Club for an evening meal. The hotel itself, while pricey, has a rooftop pool that overlooks the harbor and gives you some great views. It also has a small bar, casino and a very nice restaurant on the second floor with a balcony that overlooks the street and harbor.
CanTex Posted September 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 4, 2004 Rather than booking direct, you'll do much better by bidding for your room(s) -- I don't think I can mention the site(s) here, but think of Star Trek and it should be obvious to you. There are several sites that offer excellent advice on winning the best bid. Pay attention to their advice on using different categories and zones to get "free" re-bids in case your first offer isn't accepted. This was very useful to us as we were looking for a hotel next month in San Juan. zme Posted September 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 5, 2004 Stay away from the Caribe Hilton, they treated us like crap in August and we're Hilton Honor members. Stay anywhere but there.
Smooth Sailing Posted September 5, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 5, 2004 Not sure why so many want to bash the Caribe Hilton - We stayed there last Nov. and we were treated very well - Very nice hotel with beautiful landscaping. Maybe we were just lucky or maybe we are not very demanding - Not sure, but we prefer this hotel to the Wyndam Old San Juan and the Condado Plaza - we have stayed at all three. bbiggar Posted September 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 5, 2004 We stayed at the Carib Hilton last Sept. Except for slow check in our stay was nice. We will hopefully be there again on Friday Sept. 10th if Hurricane Ivan doesn't have his way with the island.
mcbarbee Posted September 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 6, 2004 Leaving on Destiny 9/26 and got a great price on Hotwire for this hotel. A good sight to go to to check out hotel reviews is www.traveladvisor.com. There are many good and many bad reviews of the Caribe Hilton. Guess I will find out for myself!
