Never Again

Just back from MIRACLE cruise (Panama, Costa Rico, Belize). The ship was clean and crew very friendly. Food, overall service, and entertainment very good.

Our last cruise with Carnival was 18 years ago, didn't like it then and we have cruised Princess and Celebrity *(18 cruises). Decided to try this one with a great itrnerary and an excellent value.

No complaints or issues with Carnival but we saw 3 instances of line breaking that almost resulted in fist fights, 1 instance of a loud obnoxious drunk verbally attacking a blackjack dealer, loud drunks in the dining area, and a lot of unacceptable behavior in public places.

We're used to a more controlled well mannered group of passengers and i guess we don't fit in with the" FUN SHIP "crowd. We are seniors and I guess we just don't fit in. Needless to say it's back to Celebrity/Princess and the extra cost is worth it.

....amen....totally agree.....:)

Hmmmmm.

Given the choice of having someone cut in line at the buffet on Carnival or having to dodge a food fight on Princess.....I just cant decide.

Crown Princess out of control passengers having a food fight' date=' this is the link.

The point being that this type of behavior can happen ON ANY CRUISE-LINE.

Still think that loud obnoxious behavior cant happen on Princess?[/quote']

This is why I cruise on Carnival. If anything like that ever happen on a Carnival ship I know Funship Freddy would be right down there to restore order. That look liked a really nice ship.

Guess we're just the opposite. Did a crossing on Cunard and found the people for the most part dull and boring and we are also in the Baby Boomer crowd. It was an experience on Cunard, but I can't wait to get back to Carnival. Oh well, to each his own.

Hey, Crusin' Ron...how are ya? :D

At the risk of flaming the poster, I can't help but wonder what the purpose of their post was. He/she advised that they had a terrible time and would never cruise CCL again. Ok. More power to you. Why would they come onto the CCL board and let all of the CCL fans know about it?

A. To stop THEM from sailing CCL? Yah, that'll work.

B. To let all of the low class CCL cruisers know that he/she can afford to cruise a more expensive line (ie rub their noses in it)? Congrat's!

C. To get some sorely needed attention? Bet your bippy on this one.

D. All of the above?

If the OP is so incensed about their substandard cruise, why don't they let CCL know about it? Maybe they'll get a ship board credit or some CCL after dinner mints.

Theres an ulterior motive here. This isn't just a friendly review from a die hard cruise fan. Quite frankly, I don't care what happens to CCL but the OP can kiss my fanny. LOL.

I don't agree with this summary at all. I see cruise critic as a place to discuss cruising....period. The great, good, bad, and downright ugly.

 You have to be joking. Just 2 drunk people in 7 days. Did you spend the 7 days in your room:confused:

Hmmm....I didn't go to the casino, but was every other place.

Well, I'm sure there were more than 2, but only 2 were obnoxious to the point of making it noticeable. It was a spring break cruise with lots of families. I was looking for the "Wal-Mart people" and they weren't there either.

There have been enough posts on this web site to know that some cruises are "rowdier" than others. Also, if you go expecting to see this behavior, the chances are better that you will see it.

Unfortuanetly bad behavior can be found anywhere. Ball games, Las Vegas, cruise ships.

We just let it go for the most part. Drunks in a casino, go to Vegas and you see this all of the time. If they are loosing it will always be the Casinos fault and not the fact that they drank too much and los too much money.

You can find other threads here about line crashers. Especially when trying to get on a tender.

We have cruised only 7 days or longer on CCL, and we have not encountered these problems. In fact we took a group of 11 on the Pride a few years back and 3 couples were very excited about the FUN SHIPS they had read about. Heck they had trouble finding a bar hat would stay open past 10:00 and found the crowd to be rather boring.

We are mid 40's now and have cruised 5 times on CCL and will continue.

Good luck and have a great time on yuor next cruise it really does not matter what line you choose.

I appreciate your honest review.

I have been on two Carnival cruises with my husband and kids and always felt that there was a festive but safe atmosphere. Yes we like to drink wine with our dinner so I would never criticize others for drinking. We never noticed any loud, obnoxious drunks, nor did we ever witness any fights. If that was the norm I don't think many of us would bring our families on the ship and there were a lot of families onboard. Unfortunately I think you may have just had some bad luck with your ship. But I don't blame you for not wanting to go on Carnival again.

Good luck with your next cruise.

OP, I hope you enjoy your future cruises on whichever line you choose. I'm sorry you experienced the behavior you did.

For those that say "this could happen on any cruise line", I have a question for you. While you're absolutely right, if you experienced this the first time you tried something, and previous experience on different lines was more suited to you, wouldn't you write off the company where you had the bad experience? I only have so much vacation time and so much money. If I decide to try another line (doesn't matter which one - RCI, NCL, Princess, whatever), and I have a bad experience, I'm not going to throw my hard-earned money at that line again. In my opinion, that's just silly. However, if I have a bad experience on Carnival, I know that's an abnormality as I've had 6 great cruises with Carnival, and I'd likely give them another chance. It's all in perspective and previous experiences.

I certainly did. After my second cruise.

Actually if you take the time to look at the OP's past threads. There is one asking for opinions about this ship before they sailed. So the OP was coming BACK with their own opinion of THAT ship after he/she asked for the opinion of those that sailed it.

I had the same type of experience on Sensation that the OP had on Miracle. This is after I had such a GREAT experience on Elation.

So although I personally know that my experience could have happen anywhere and it's not one that I experienced in the past with Carnival....I also know that MY experience has left me jaded against Carnival for now.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and shouldn't be chided with a statement to "kiss your fanny"

1) Because they wanted to let prospective Carnival cruisers know of their experience on their cruise, at their ages? (and did I miss the part where this is the "Carnival fan" message board?)

2) Because the internet is a powerful medium for getting a message across, in addition to comment cards, etc? That's ESPECIALLY true if you've decided not to sail a line again -- the line doesn't give a darn about you after that point, so why bother writing to them?

3) Because MANY of the people who cruise Carnival ALSO cruise other lines, some more expensive, some less -- and this post reflects a universal truth about cruising -- you could be on Seabourn, and your fellow passengers could still make your experience a less-than-great one?

4) Because all reviews aren't "friendly reviews from a die hard cruise fan?" In fact, the most helpful reviews are rarely that -- more often they are balanced, reporting some positives and some negatives (as this OP did). Plus the OP came back to reply on the thread and answer questions. Sometimes reviews are just one person taking the time from their lives to share their experiences. It's up to YOU (and all of us) to give them the weight you feel they deserve, and to decide if the poster's experience is applicable to you.

Your post is the kind we normally see in reply to a one-time poster, negative review, with no details, and no follow-up (i.e., troll). I'm thinking you're on the wrong thread, because nothing about the OP or his follow up triggered my "T" button. As Freud allegedly said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

To the OP, I'm sorry your Carnival experience wasn't what you wanted, but I appreciate your report on your cruise experience. On any cruiseline, the mix of passengers can be such a huge factor. :(

This is the most intelligent post/ comment I've read in my short time here.

I thought the site is called "Cruise Critic" but have had a hard time finding an un-biased review.

It's amazing how anyone has a good time on a cruise, judging by the bitterness toward anyone that doesn't share the exact feelings as you.

You basically just explained why there is more than one cruise line.

THANKS...You did see my intent..I posted earlier prior to my cruise for information and explained my apprehension about booking this cruise...Many Carnival cruisers offered good advice and asked me to post my experience. I did just that and JETERTORRE had he read my earlier posts would have known that. Sorry if i offended anyone. That was not my intent. Regarding Carnival...They own most of the other lines and i"am sure they know if they can't make me happy on a ccl ship i'll cruise one of their other lines.

No flames from me for sure.:D

I must be the luckiest human alive. I've never seen the behavior you and others are describing. Maybe I just don't pay attention? Until something really bad happens I'll just cruise Carnival. If I did have the one time experience OP had I would most likely do the same thing, or worse.

Well at least the original poster gave good reviews of the cruise itself. Maybe Carnival can do more to watch behavior to maintain peace for all. As far as line breaking causing fights - that is true anywhere. I saw this happen at the Kennedy Center between a couple of guy getting on a shuttle bus after a classical music concert.

that is unfortunate that you experienced that...

I, personally, book Carnival (and short cruises) EXACTLY for the ruckus of a louder, more youthful crowd - albeit I prefer them to not be rude, just loud and fun...

To each their own... If I were cruising with my parents I would not recommend the ships I choose... Then again my parents aren't party animals like I still am...

My $.02

And to clarify - the rudeness and line-cutting are always unacceptable regardless of the cruise type or line... I just wanted to clarify that although I love to party, I always do it with respect to others on the ship and conduct myself accordingly...
