We are going to be on a December Trans Atlantic crossing leaving Barcelona and were wondering if anyoen was aware of a way to ship baggage to meet you at the ship preferrably or possibly at the hotel we'll be staying in. We are arriving a week early but flying into rome and would prefer to travel light until we get to the ship.

Has anyone heard of tis or done it in the past internationally,

I priced shipping a 20 lb package with ups and fed-ex and it was $270 and $411. If I can't find a better solution I'll just have to try to pack light and schlep it around with us! The DW had hip surgery a while ago and dragging too much around is well....a drag!!

Thanks

US POST OFFICE

Express to Europe from the USA for 50 pounds-about $190

Priority from the USA-about $140.00

Parcel Post (goes by ship and takes at least 30 days)-about $85.00

I am in the international shipping/logistics business. Overseas shipping is NOT cheap, as you have found out. FedEx/UPS are cheaper if you use their 3-5 day services.

If you are in a large city that has customs brokers/logistics companies, call some of them. They usually have discounted rates for overseas shipping (a 50 pound box will still cost at least $100.00 via air). But make SURE they can deliver to your hotel in Barcelona. Otherwise, your suitcases will be left at a dock/warehouse someplace.

I ship bags all the time, and find that most mass market lines will not allow you to ship bags to their ships. Your only choice is to ship to a pre-cruise hotel, if the hotel allows it. Most upscale hotels do allow this, but your less expensive ones will not---plus, I know from experience they do not like to have your bags in their possession more than one or two days before your arrival. They don't want the legal hassles if something goes missing. Also, I've not shipped to Spain, but I also know from experience that many countries will impose a rather large Customs fee for shipping your own clothes into their country. I wanted to ship bags to Argentina, Egypt, Chile and a couple other places but I didn't because I was told that even though what I was shipping were my own clothes, local customs fees would be charged---and in Argentina that charge would be as high as $1500.
