Help! 1st Snorkel

Yes, they do provide masks, etc. However, sometimes they are not in the best of shape. If this is a one time thing I wouldn't recommend buying your own, but if you plan on doing a lot of snorkeling it could be a good investment to have your own stuff. If you get your own stuff, however, it's more a pain dragging it around with you.

If you have a lake, ocean, pool, or other body of water around you that you'd lke to see more in, a mask is a decent investment.

The snorkels themselves are realtively inexpensive.

All told, you can get decent equipment for about $75 per person (without purchasing fins which are a bulky item...)

This time of year may find some equipment on sale at dive shops, depending upon where you live...
