BEST CRUISE LINE for NON SMOKERS

Well--I just learned on my Celebrity threads that Celebrity allows smoking in the staterooms  let alone all the lounges:mad:

One reason our family is NOT sailing with Carnival this time was that every lounge on the Miracle was heavily smokey for the entire cruise and there was nowhere to go to dance and have a drink without the smoke.

We had hoped Celebrity would be better--but I guess I assumed it--I think RCL has a better smoking policy that balances both groups needs...and thought that Celebrity had a similar policy--and frankly never checked.

(my bad:( )

Which cruiselines have generous policies that allow a family to cruise in generally a smoke free environment??

Its all strange really since many hotel chains have gone smoke free in all of their indoor spaces and all rooms--yet the cruise industry is so far behind.

So please here--tell me about your cruises on various lines and which are more smoke free.

Thanks

Disney...lol

And RCCL.

On Carnival was the first time I ever smelled smoke on a cruiseship. And in all fairness to Celebrity, I honestly have never smelled smoke on a RCCL ship and at THIS time they do allow smoking in cabins. It will change 1/1/08.

If Celebrity is like RCCL, then certain areas of the lounges are for smokers (they actually marked the tables on Freedom)

And of course, the outside decks on one side of the ship is smoking.

All balconies on RCCL are smoking.

Cigarette Smoking is permitted:

In staterooms.

In designated areas on the port (left) side of most public areas (Lounges, Bars, Decks).

Cigarette Smoking is not permitted:

In the Celebrity Theater.

In the Cinema.

In the Conference Center.

In the Dining Room.

In the Elevators.

On the starboard (right) side of the ship, either indoors or outdoors.

Pipe and Cigar Smoking:

Pipe and cigar smoking is only allowed in specifically

designated areas on outer decks of the vessel.

Please check with the Guest Relations Desk for these specific venues.

Please note that at no time is cigar and pipe smoking permitted in staterooms/suites or on their verandas.

I am sad that all rooms allow cigarette smoke...

It never occurred to me that the cruise industry was so far behind on this...

NCL has just implemented a really restricted smoking policy - there was a BIG thread about it a month or so ago on the NCL board! The reason cruise ships are slow to catch up with the hotels is that they aren't governed by the laws that the hotels have to work with regarding smoking, and based on the thread over on the NCL boards, smokers DEMAND their god given right to pollute themselves and the air around them. Some of them were REALLY angry about being restricted to the small number of inside smoking venues or designated outdoor areas.

In any case, on NCL I believe now there is smoking only in the casino and one other lounge, plus staterooms. On our last NCL cruise in December, there were more designated areas, but they were easy to avoid - except for the casino - which was a little more difficult, but my husband walked up or down a floor to get past it without walking through - or he would have had a nasty allergic reaction.

It would be so much easier if all people really cared about how they were affecting others. I've been known to have a cigarette myself sometimes when I'm socializing, but even in -40 weather up here I never complain about taking it outside - and I stand as far away from the door as I can so that people going in and out don't have to smell my poison!

I figure that the port side smoking thing should be extended to the rooms as well. What's the point of having a balcony if you are going to be inundated by smoke from other passengers when you go out for a breath of fresh air?

As anti-smoking as I am, it is truly baffling to me that I got charged a $250 fee for smoking in my room at a West Palm Beach Marriott. Of course, I didn't actually do it, as I don't smoke, and haven't ever taken a single puff of a cigarette in my entire lifetime. However, the management refused to budge, and Marriott Customer Support sided with the manager, so I had to have Amex dispute the charge.

WHat baffles me is the attitude of smokers who think their right to smoke is more important than then right of others to breath.

As an asthmatic--its not only an asthetic issue but also a health issue

The Celebrity thread has gotten hostile --it was started as someoneasking others to join him in emailing the Celebrity offices and asking for ONE smoke-free lounge/venue...

I just want to find a cruiseline that offers a great vacation in a healthy environment.

With two teens who buried their late grandfather after a battle with lung cancer (smoker)

its beyond us why poeple fight for their rights to pollute others air..

and

it seems that the cruise industry hasn't caught up with the smoke free bedrooms --

I am going to go through that article and also read the other lines policies.

Hoping our Christmas cruise will be pleasant ..and not nearly as smokey as the Carnival ship was...

Now I have no way of knowing whether the person before me was a smoker or not but I've never smelled smoke in my cabin. As for the rest of it I am certainly with you. And I do agree with wouldn't it be nice with cabins on one side of the ship being smoking. My son is asthmatic so I worry about him on the cruise as we walk through rooms. And I don't think the only option should be spending 5 x more money.

I cruised RCI over the summer and was concerned about this. My children and I have very sensitive noses (so my husband teases us) and we could pick up cigarette smoke if it were there or had been there recently. We were never bothered by this at all anywhere on the ship. I don't know if this helps you or not because it's no guarantee.
