my husband is handicapped and we have a layover in New York on our way to Chile. Does anyone have suggestions for a hotel or Inn. We really can't sightsee the way a non-handicapped person can so we could stay near JFK or?? Don't want to pay huge money for a dump and am a bit shell shocked at New York prices. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

If you stay near JFK then you are not very close to Manhattan. You would really be stuck there and taking taxis or car service to and from Manhattan could end up being quite pricey.

Manhattan hotel prices are expensive so I can't help you out there, but if you plan on exploring Manhattan then it might be better to pay the ridiculous prices vs. having to shell out a lot for car service. All New York City buses are handicapped accessible so getting around for your husband is doable.

When will you be here? As we get closer to the holiday season, everything here is going to get expensive. Can your husband walk and climb stairs with difficulty, or are we talking wheelchair? As Name Game says, all the buses have wheelchair access, and some subway stations have elevators. The Econolodge at 8th Avenue and 47th is sometimes very reasonable, and has an elevator.
