charlene19 Posted November 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2007 Is there a reason why other ports in mexico is 4-6pm departure time, but cabo is it looks like 2pm? I always hear friends rave about cabo, how they will go down there for weekends, but it's the port that's the shortest amount of time...so was wondering if there was a reason for this? Colo Cruiser Posted November 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2007 It is a time issue for the ship to make its next port usually LA. :) When it is a first stop it is usually a longer day.
Pam in CA Posted November 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 25, 2007 Distance. They need to allow enough time to return to San Pedro. They could go at full speed and allow you a little extra time there but then the fuel rate would increase (they'd have to burn more fuel) and the prices would go up. If you want longer in Cabo, you might consider an all-inclusive or an itinerary that stops first at Cabo rather than last.
Druke I Posted November 25, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 25, 2007 Distance, plus they are going against the flow of the Japanese Current, which flows South along the Left Coast. Ship has to "work harder" Northbound!
Murphey Posted November 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Take the Dawn from San Diego....you'll have a full day there.
beachtravel Posted November 26, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 26, 2007 The last tender leaves at 12:30, even though the ship doesn't leave until after 2pm. We just got back and hated the fact that it was such a short day.

At least so they told us on the Sapphire in '06. It's pretty much 900 miles and to do that in the current 42 hours takes just about everything the ship has. Not sure that taking the current LA-departure and flipping it so that Cabo was first would work, since they couldn't get to Cabo early enough on that second day out. I recall it was around lunch hour or later on the Monday (Saturday sailing from LA) when we sailed by Cabo going southbound. Although personally speaking, I would be happy if they had Cabo and PV surrounded by 2 sea days each way and dropped Mazatlan, but I don't think they'll do that LOL. But as said, there are other itineraries from San Diego and even San Francisco that have more time in Cabo.
