bollan Posted November 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2007 Just went to Jolly Roger pirate cruises website, and saw this: Please Note! The Jolly Roger is currently dry docked! We are in the process of constructing a completely new custom ship, featuring many new amenities to host the best pirate party EVER! We plan to be sailing by November 2008, see you then! Anyone know anything about this? We have booked with them through Carnival for our Carnival Destiny cruise from San Juan on jan. 20th 2008. Hopefully it will be available again by the time I go in May.

Jolly Roger has been on dry dock (in nearby St.Vincent) and has long since come off dry dock and is now in Trinidad where she has been sold. Tall Ships, the parent company that owned her before sale, will probably honour your bookings on their Harbour Master vessel which is far more spacious and comfortable, although not a sailing schooner with romantic red sails and other sentimental stuff. There are other threads here, to that effect. Have a Search.
bollan Posted November 29, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted November 29, 2007 Thank you for your answers and the link to another post. I hope we will have a great time, without the red sails. Wrote an email to carnival yesterday, but haven`t got an answer yet. Better to ask on this board :)

Have been back in service for about 6 weeks now . Wishing you a wonderful cruise, Best Regards, Tour Operations Carnival Cruise Lines I can only relate what one of the TallShips shareholders told me and he was the one who took it down to dry dock in St.Vincent supervised the work for 2 wks.? or so and then flew back up to Barbados 'empty-handed'. "I sell it as I bought it." I'm in Trinidad these last 10 days but before I left it wasn't around the Barbados Shallow Draught Harbour where it normally 'lives' I go back up to Barbados tomorrow nite and am having pizza dinner with that same source, Sat. nite can ask again, see wot's wot for you. Aplmac Posted December 5, 2007 #8 Share Posted December 5, 2007 Don't worry about your booking! TallShips will give you an equivalent,equal-fun coastal cruise on one of their TIAMI catamarans, or on the more spacious and comfortable Harbour Master. Personally I much prefer HM, becoz it's not as crowded, waaay more personal space has a super-long bar and 3 decks to choose from (four if you include the lowermost air-conditioned restrooms deck!) TallShips have been in the business for decades - you won't be disappointed
bollan Posted December 5, 2007 Author #9 Share Posted December 5, 2007 Thank you so much. I guess you know more than Carnival :) We were really looking forward to this excursion. This is the only "Party" excursion of this type we have found. I belive we will survive without the tour... But then we would really find something else to do while in Barbados. bollan Posted December 5, 2007 Author #11 Share Posted December 5, 2007 New reply from Carnival: Hello again, Oops, sorry! Spoke too soon... In my reply, I was referring to the Jolly Roger in Grand Cayman. I now see by your Booking # order, you were referring to Barbados. My apologies. You are correct. however, the Operator is wanting to substitute another vessel until their new "Jolly Roger" is complete. We're looking into it, and will get back to you shortly. Any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me... Maybe I shall answer the mail with a "I know we will be sailing on Harbour Master instead!" Hoho.. ;)

Hoho.. ;) You should have an equal blast on Harbour Master, I promise. It's quite a party boat! All that's missing are the red sails and the romantic notion of a pirate ship (they're actually converted commercial island-trading schooners!) The very same people run the Tiami cats, Harbour Master, and Jolly Roger's when they have one up and running (conversions take about a year) - I used to work on board during the Summer of 1976 and believe me I could spin you a few yarns :) Even back then, those guys were already running the Jolly Roger cruises for quite a few years! By 2007, they've been doing it now for four decades. They've seen it all. . . . . . . . . . . . . . DON'T cancel your Barbados "Jolly Roger" booking. It you wanted to do a coast booze-cruise while in Barbados you can, you should and you shall.:) TallShips may ask whether you want to do the slightly more laid-back Tiami catamaran cruise(a bit crowded) -younger crowd.. OR the party-boat Harbour Master: they choice is yours. Tell them what you want!! Example: On Harbour Master you won't be eating lunch off a plate on your lap You'll be sitting at a table - that kinda difference.. ..and you can walk around and stretch your legs much more, on HM. remember... Three decks!:)
bollan Posted December 6, 2007 Author #13 Share Posted December 6, 2007 Well well.. New reply from Carnival: Hello, This is correct. The old Jolly Roger boat has been sold and a new one is being built. This being said, all excursions will be cancelled and an automatic refund will be applied (if you have already purchased tickets). How typical. The excursion we looked most forward to is now canceled. Guess we`ll have to look around and find something else now. Thank you aplmac for all info!
