Anyone do the Jeep excursion?

We will be on the Feb. 3-10 Eastern Caribbean sailing of the Celebrity Millenium - can't wait. We have been looking at excursions for the various ports and my husband and our adult daughter found one at the Casa De Campo stop, offered through Celebrity, that's called "Self Drive 4 x 4 Wrangler Expedition." Since they are both Jeep enthusiasts, they thought this might be fun. The description from Celebrity says that you "explore the rural areas of la Romana & Bayahibe as you take turns driving your own 4 x 4." Has anyone done this? Are the rural areas safe? The description doesn't say whether the tour operator goes along. I'm just looking for some reassurance that this outing would be ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
