Ronath Posted May 27, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 27, 2004 We loved the Enchanted Isle. Miss the attentive personal service. Wonder where Wendy (bar waitress) and her husband Oliver (bar manager) are now? Journeyman Posted June 27, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 27, 2004 Anyone out there know what happened to the Enchanted Isle employee's? Dan Stapleton, Alan Lee,(Samuel head waiter),etc. They were a great crew! In 2001 we cruised to Alaska on World Explorer's UNIVERSE EXPLORER and met many people that worked on the Enchanted Isle. The UNIVERSE EXPLORER and the ENCHANTED ISLE were sister ships built in 1957. They were some of the last American built cruiseships if not the last. Does anyone know for sure? We enjoyed both ships very much. -Journeyman

We enjoyed both ships very much.Yes, they are the last large US-built passenger ships to date. PRIDE OF AMERICA (if NCL ever gets her up and running) is theoretically US-built - at the same shipyard in Mississippi nonetheless (then called Ingalls Shipbuilding, later bought by Litton who in turn were bought by Northrop Grumman) - but as only part of her hull was built in the US, and the rest of her construction is being done in Germany, whether she should be considered as such is debatable. dugnbubba Posted August 27, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 27, 2004 Talk about a good time. August '97 out of New Orleans. A whole lot of fun and met many nice people from Louisiana. One thing the Enchaned Isle offered was a much more relaxed and intimate atmosphere without sacrificing top notch service and a caring crew.
