formal nights for kids on Mariner

Would khakis and a nice button down be ok for a 7 year old- how about a sun dress for a 3 year old:confused:

You will find a wide range of dress on formal nights. For every parent's sanity, thank goodness RCCI is not one of those lines where formal is taken VERY seriously. While I understand that some people really enjoy formal night, I personally cut people a lot of slack!

 

Khakis and a button-down oxford type shirt should be acceptable for formal night -- add a tie and make certain that the shoes are not sneakers -- and you'll have moved up. There are folks who do the whole "shootn match" with suits, but that just is not always practical -- as well as the renting a tux route. I don't know of too many 7YO boys who would really appreciate suits or tuxes. If you can borrow or find one at a really low price (thrift shop) the suit would not be out of place -- but I wouldn't kill myself looking for one.

 

I nice sundress for a 3YO girl again would be acceptable. Accessorizing it (dressy shoes/sandals and a cute "lacy" cardigan -- the AC in the dining rooms can be a bit chilly) is the key. If DD is in a "dressing up" phase (I know my DD went through about a year somewhere between 3 and 5YO when she ALWAYS wanted to wear a "bress") you may want to look for something a bit dressier for her -- it will help her remember the moment and will likely make her behave a bit better. But if she's not "in to" dressing up -- a nice sundress with dressier shoes and a cute sweater should be fine for most cruises.

That would be perfectly fine. I use the formal nights as the only way to get family portraits done together every year. ;)

 

And remember, if you are going on a 7 dayer, then there are 2 formal nights. The 2nd seems to be a little less formal than the first.
