Changing Ships/Cruiselines

Last week I booked a May 2008 cruise on the Carnival Glory for the entire family (Christmas gift). Today, I found out we have friends sailing on the RCI Mariner of the Seas at roughly the same time (though different itinerary).

Since I worked with an independent TA, is it possible to switch cruises? I'd actually prefer the western itineray of the Glory, but this is more about the kids having a good time anyway. The wife and I have been on a couple of cruises before, but this is a new situation. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

All Cruises have a deadline after which time you can't cancel without penalties. For example this year my 12/16 sailing with Celebrity had a cancellation deadline of 10/07. Next year my Carnival sailing on 12/06 has a Cancellation deadline of 09/21. Your receipt that your TA sent to you should show that deadline.
