Our first cruise was our honeymoon 20 years ago on a NCL 4 day cruise and we had an OV suite. It was nice (doesn't compare to today's suites though). We were on a Princess cruise 3 years ago and booked inside because that was the only way we could afford it. We were very happy with our room. Storage, layout, everything was great. We slept like babies all week. We decided to do another cruise for our 20th anniversary and bring the kids (don't ask why they are coming since we can't figure it out). We saw that we could get 2 insides for cheaper then 1 OV. It is great that they are in the connecting inside so we have our privacy, but the kids are close. No problem with the inside. Why squeeze 4 into a OV when we are getting 2 rooms and get ride of the kids at night.

We are proud to be Windowless Wonders!

My DH and I have cruised 18 times and have stayed in suites, balconies, oceanview, and inside rooms. We have enjoyed all staterooms, but since DH retired and I am a domestic engineer, the only way we can cruise several times a year is in inside cabins. We are basically in the cabin to sleep, shower, and get dressed, so the category of cabin really makes no difference. We would never pass up an opportunity for an upgrade, but we enjoy the same amenties as others for less cost. Being Platinum cruisers also makes cruising wonderful!

We have stayed in both outsides and insides but were upgraded to our first balcony on the Legend a couple of weeks ago. We really enjoyed the balcony but I missed the quiet of the inside cabin. People seem to want to slam those balcony door all night and one night we were sitting out enjoying the stars and above us a couple started fighting using all sorts of bad language. We thought that a body would come flying by. It got so bad that we came inside and went down to the casino!! Still by booking inside gtys. we can cruise 3 or 4 times a year now that we are retired and have the time. I guess it all comes down to "there are no BAD cabins, just some are nicer than others". :D :D

20 cruises, 17 inside, 2 OV & 1 Balcony. One of those insides was overlooking the promenade on Navigator of the Seas and that was a disaster. Too much light and noise all night long.

We try to book a guarenteed inside and take our chances with getting upgraded. Carnival is the best for this and the one time we had the balcony, it was an upgrade. People tend to forget that you only have the sun facing your balcony on one leg of your trip. If you get the sun at the beginning of your cruise, then the other side of the ship has it on the way back. Oh yeah, forget about leaving the balcony door open to hear the waves put you to sleep cause the A/C shuts down when the door is open. You'll wake up in a puddle from the humidity.

Everyone has their own preferences but we don't spend any time in our cabin and decided many moons ago that we would rather cruise more often than watch the waves going by through a window.

After enjoying a few balcony cruises, I gave my family a choice...we could continue to cruise once a year in a balcony or we could cruise twice a year inside. Inside won!

This year we've enjoyed 3 cruises in 13 months and have another one booked in 2.5 months. This is all because of the money we've saved by booking an inside cabin over a balcony.

Nobody is complaining in my family! And we're proud members of the Windowless Wonders.

we will be sailing next week in our first balcony ,on the Liberty. until now i have booked inside for 10 cruises.(only twice were we upgraded to OV) I love the snug, safe, cocoon like feeling of the inside, and always have the most incredible nites sleep. and as everyone says ;who spends time in the cabin, anyway? OF COURSE we would rather sail twice inside than once outside/ balcony. THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A BAD CRUISE!!

My husband and I have had insides, oceanviews and balconies during our 12 cruises. While the balconies were very nice I would rather cruise more often in an inside cabin. For our upcoming cruise in 2 weeks we booked an inside guarantee on Imagination. This would usually be on the lowest deck but we were upgraded to the Veranda deck. Once on Miracle we were upgraded to an obstructed view outside. This had french doors that opened and you got that wonderful sea air. There was a lifeboat in front of the doors but you could still see around it. All this for the price of the cheapest inside. We usually book a guarantee with the hope of some kind of an upgrade. After 12 cruises and Platinum status we have been pretty lucky. Can't wait for our next cruise on Jan. 14th!!

We have only booked inside cabins. we don't spend a lot of time in the cabin, and when we do, it is to sleep (at night and naps). I just can't see spending the extra money for something I wouldn't use that much.

Like you, I would rather book another cruise using the money I would have spent on a balcony.

We've had inside, oceanview, and a balcony once when we got a free upgrade. The balcony was really nice, I had a huge exam to take 3 days after we came back from the cruise, so I took my books with me and sat on the balcony where it was nice and quiet and got some studying done. Yes, I know, how could I study on a cruise, but i had to. I didn't know I would have to take the test until it was too late. My parents told me if I wanted to stay home and study, they would forfeit the money for the cruise, but I figured it's much better to study on a cruise than study at home. And, I did pretty well on the exam too, so I guess it worked.

This cruise coming up, I'm going iwth a friend, we took an obstructed ocean view, it was only an extra $40 or so per person, and we picked a room between the lifeboats, so it should be fine. I like having the outside light to wake me up, otherwise I wake up and look at my clock and can't tell if it's 10 am or 10 pm. But always take an inside over no cruise. You're only in there to sleep, really.

Inside, Ocean View, Balcony, Suite... who cares? If your happy with you cabin selection, why do you feel you have to explain your choice and cost for doing so? We all have many reasons for doing things, but all of you have one thing in common.....

CRUISING!

Agree........I spend extra money on the balcony, but not a dime in the casino and I don't run up a bar tab. Get me my balcony on a ship and I'm happy to be cruising the way I like it.

Someone mentioned how the slamming doors on the balconies was annoying. I certainly agree. I blame that on inconsiderate people who simply don't care, or notice, how much noise they make. On that one time we had a balcony, the door slammers were out in force. I'd try to snooze on the balcony in the afternoon, only to be jolted out of sleep every few minutes when the neighbors let their balcony doors slam. The guy next door got mad at his wife for slamming the door continuously each time she came in and out. So, what does she do? Yes, she slams the door again. For those who haven't had the experience - the doors have rather heavy spring returns, for good reaon (kind of tough to open too). If you simply let go, WHAM!!! Some lines have sliding doors on the balcony, which don't make much noise at all, if any.

As for the bridge cam - I think every ship I've been on had one. On one ship, it was out of order. You just switch to a certain channel on TV and can see out the front of the ship, even in port. I also like checking the navigation/ship info channel that gives sea conditions, weather, location, and usually a plot on a map that shows where you are.

I love inside cabins also. They give us more money for other things and they are perfect for afternoon naps. Our PVP said she had never had anyone turn her down for a free upgrade to a porthole before!

I wholeheartedly agree. Never turn down a freebie! We got upgraded from an interior to an OV twice now. We just won't pay more for the window. Now, when we go to Alaska we will get a balcony. But it's our honeymoon and we went to see the beautiful scenery.

We always book inside guarantee. It's more cost-effective and both my husband and I find we sleep really well in an inside cabin. That said, the last two cruises we have been upgraded to an outside. IMHO, I would never pay for an outside cabin. The only time we were in the cabin was at night when you couldn't see anything anyway.

I would love to try a balcony and planned to for the cruise in March but it was almost $600 more. Instead I took those savings, put another $600 with it and booked a second cruise in July!!

I just booked the 1A (upper/lower, cheapest) on the Carnival Conquest.... SHhhh, but I'm getting windows...

I won't complain and I'll take any upgrade. I book for the savings. The dark room during the day is VERY helpful, but, I do LOVE the views, too!!!

I love em! and not because of the price! My first cruise I didn't know what I was looking more forward to, the actual cruise or the fact that I would get to sleep in a windowless very dark room. I prayed that if the upgrade fairy visited me, I wouldn't get a window! I've long said my ideal bedroom has no windows, is climate controlled and sound proof too. :D

I can understand the concern for sleeping all day. When I first changed over to Velvet drapes in my bedroom I slept till noon. Now a days I'm just a regular ol early riser regardless of how dark the room is.

For me, there is nothing worse than a teeny bit of light sneeking in the room from the sides or tops of the curtains.

Oh, I also cover up the peephole on the door and stick a towel at the bottom of the door.
