As a general rule, yes. Subject to the same weight and dimension requirements as any piece of luggage.

 

It better be sealed shut EXTREMELY well (we use the shiny silver air conditioning duct tape, NOT regular duct tape). We use two-four large coolers every year to get our fish home from Alaska on AA. But they need to be sealed REALLY well.

 

And don't be surprised if it may "disappear". Depending on your destination, the baggage handlers KNOW that a lot of coolers contain booze. We never worry about it from Alaska because ALL the coolers on the planes contain either fish or caribou.
