juried Posted January 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2008 Hi, We are on the NCL Dawn 1/13/08 returning 1/20/08. Does anyone know how early we can disembark the ship? Our flight leaves Miami at 10:05am. We will have VIP or express service through our concierge, I just did not consider US Customs…. Will we need to go through Customs if our last port was Great Stirrup Cay? Thanks for any info on this … Juried

It usually takes 60-90 minutes for Customs agents to clear the ship before anyone is allowed off. So the arrival time is not the disembarkation time. With a 6:00 a.m. arrival and without any problems with Customs, the ship should begin disembarking passengers about 7:30 a.m. You should be fine unless you get tied up at the airport. Sometimes things can hold the agents up.... foreigners not reporting when called (we were held up 30 minutes extra in NY one time due to this.), having to check staff passports, a lot of ships arriving that morning, etc. At least with express disembarkation, you will be able to be one of the first ones off without having to fight the masses doing Express Disembarkation.... Cosmopolitan Posted January 7, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2008 Express disembarkation will get you off of the ship BEFORE VIP disembarkation...as long as you can carry off ALL of your luggage;)
schagpal Posted January 7, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 7, 2008 Just back from 12/30 sailing. We were surprised how long normal disembarking took. We didn't get our color called until almost 9:40am and weren't out of the ship terminal until approx 10:20am. We weren't in a rush so it was fine for us. The only way to make your flight is to do express, where you must be able to carry (roll) all of your own luggage and belongings in one trip. The wait to clear customs/immigration took us about 20 minutes. There were 4 lines set up at the bottom of the escalators and you just had to pick a line and wait in it. What was surprising was that unlike prior cruises and what we had been told to expect, we did this BEFORE getting our luggage. After clearing, we simple gathered our luggage and exitied the building. Also, to catch a cab, we had to battle everyone else getting off the Dawn and another in the same terminal. By moving to the far left we were able to get a cab as they were literally entering the area for pick-up/unloading. We found that if we waited where they told us to wait for the cab, they were all claimed by folks who had already walked forward. Good luck and enjoy. You are at the mercy of Customs and Boarder Patrol.
